Job Description
Serve as the department Dispatcher, Dispatch Office Manager, Information and Data Retrieval Specialist, and Mass Communications Operator.
Responsibilities- Dispatcher Function (50%)
- Receives emergency and non‑emergency requests by telephone, radio, and in person.
- Monitors radio communication on multiple frequencies and responds promptly and appropriately to radio traffic.
- Coordinates and dispatches on and off campus law enforcement, fire, safety, emergency aid personnel, and other resources to respond to calls and alarms.
- Utilizes Computer‑Assisted Dispatch system (CAD) to take initial information for police reports, assign police officers, track progress of calls, and document and note actions taken during incidents.
- Operates a multiple line telephone system including Telephony (TTY).
- Dispatches Safe Team, Parking Enforcement, and other personnel as requested and/or needed.
- Dispatch Office Manager (20%)
- Remains knowledgeable of department and university policy and procedure, responding tactfully, clearly, concisely, and appropriately to inquiries from the public, staff, or other agencies on sensitive issues.
- Issues keys to authorized personnel, controls the key check‑in/check‑out procedures, and maintains all appropriate records.
- Prepares lost and recovered property reports as needed.
- Acts as receptionist for all three divisions of Public Safety and University inquiries, directing them to the responsible offices around campus.
- Monitors security and fire alarm systems.
- Combines knowledge of campus and Warrensburg to direct law enforcement personnel and the general public to university buildings, departments, streets, parking lots, and city locations.
- Coordinates with vendors and on‑campus resources to complete work orders and maintain equipment within the department.
- Monitors the campus video security system.
- Information and Data Retrieval Specialist (20%)
- Inputs and retrieves information into the Missouri Uniform Law Enforcement System (MULES) which links to the Missouri Department of Revenue (DOR), National Crime Information Center (NCIC), and the International Justice and Public Safety Network (NLETS).
- Maintains knowledge of changes in technology and is familiar with program capabilities to actively use a variety of computer programs and data sources to retrieve information in emergency and non‑emergency situations.
- Mass Communications Operator (10%)
- Initiates emergency siren and alerting systems in buildings and around campus as situations dictate.
- Sends mass text messages and email as situations dictate.
Education:
High School diploma or equivalent.
Experience:
1 year police dispatch experience preferred.
- MULES certification preferred.
- Lifting (weight) – 20 lbs.
- Sitting for long periods of time.
