Job SummaryThe School Treasurer serves as the chief financial officer of the school district, playing a crucial role in ensuring responsible stewardship of public funds entrusted to the district by the community. This position is responsible for the comprehensive management of all district finances, including budgeting, accounting, payroll, procurement, and financial reporting. The School Treasurer works closely with the Superintendent and Board of Education to provide transparent, accurate, and timely financial information that supports sound decision‑making and long‑term fiscal health.
Through diligent oversight of internal controls and strict adherence to state and federal regulations, the School Treasurer upholds the highest standards of financial integrity and accountability, ensuring that every dollar is directed toward the educational success of students.
The Warrensville Heights City School Board of Education seeks a qualified Treasury professional who will continue the focus on excellence, communications, trust, and transparency and be a strategic partner with the Board and Superintendent.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Manage and maintain all district financial accounts, including operating, capital, and special revenue funds.
- Oversee the receipt, disbursement, and investment of all school district funds in accordance with applicable laws and board policies.
- Develop, monitor, and administer the annual district budget in collaboration with the Superintendent and administrative team.
- Ensure timely payment of all district obligations, including payroll, vendor invoices, and debt service.
- Prepare and present accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports to the Board of Education.
- Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal financial regulations, including GAAP and governmental accounting standards.
- Coordinate and facilitate annual independent audits and respond to audit findings as needed.
- File all required financial reports with state and federal agencies on time.
- Oversee the processing of employee payroll and ensure accuracy of deductions, benefits, and tax with holdings.
- Maintain accurate payroll records and ensure compliance with applicable employment laws.
- Administer the district's purchasing policies, including competitive bidding and contract management procedures.
- Review and approve purchase orders and expenditures in accordance with board‑approved budget allocations.
- Monitor cash flow and maintain sufficient liquidity for district operations.
- Invest surplus funds in accordance with board policy and state law to maximize returns while minimizing risk.
- Establish and maintain effective internal controls to safeguard district assets and prevent fraud or misuse of funds.
- Conduct periodic reviews of financial processes and recommend improvements as needed.
- Serve as the primary financial advisor to the Superintendent and Board of Education.
- Collaborate with building principals and department heads on budget planning and financial matters.
- Respond to financial inquiries from staff, parents, and community members in a professional and timely manner.
- Prior School Treasurer/CFO experience preferred.
- Excellent communicator – both verbal and written.
- Valid Ohio Treasurer's License and understanding of Ohio school finance.
- Collaborative and strategic leader.
- Willingness to actively engage the community and various organizations.
- Teamwork oriented.
- Relationship builder who can build trust.
- Strong interpersonal skills for effective interactions with the Board of Education, staff, students, parents, and the community.
- Ability to foster and maintain an atmosphere of respect and trust.
- Experience with COPs, financing, bond experience preferred.
- Able to lead a staff of six individuals.
