Schedule:
1st Shift - 5 8-hour or 4 10-hour
The Forklift Mechanic is responsible for the safe operation, inspection, repair, and preventive maintenance of Powered Industrial Trucks (PITs), as well as the care and maintenance of industrial batteries. This role ensures equipment reliability, compliance with safety standards, and operational efficiency.
Responsibilities- Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair forklifts, including AC/DC electrical systems, motors, starters, contractors, relays, hydraulics, transmissions, brakes, steering, wheels, and suspension.
- Test and repair systems using electrical meters and troubleshoot Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs).
- Perform welding and electrical repairs as required.
- Support battery operations, including charger repairs, replacements, plug/tip repairs, watering, washing, and area upkeep.
- Perform scheduled preventive maintenance on forklifts, including oil changes, belt and chain inspections, and battery care.
- Record time and materials in the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment.
- Communicate effectively and collaborate with team members.
- Respond promptly to emergencies to protect associates and facilities.
- Follow all safety policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements, including OSHA standards.
- Promote a safety-first culture across the department.
- High school diploma or GED required; technical school education (minimum two years) preferred.
- Six years of forklift maintenance experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- MHE 8-hour maintenance technician certificate from a recognized manufacturer (e.g., Crown, Raymond, Hyster).
- Strong mechanical/electrical aptitude and knowledge of electrical, hydraulic, and combustion systems.
- Ability to read and interpret schematics.
- Strong communication and customer service skills.
- Technical degree, welding skills, and experience with forklift repair and diagnostic equipment preferred.
- Mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills.
- Knowledge of safety standards and regulations.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Experience with advanced diagnostic tools.
- Familiarity with various forklift brands and models.
