This leadership role oversees and manages the daily operations of the Planning Division’s long range and current planning efforts. The work is focused on Comprehensive Plan updates and amendments; land development applications, such as rezoning, special exceptions and special permits; transportation planning; and protection/preservation of heritage and natural resources.
In this role, you'll:
- Work closely with the Department Director, the Board of Supervisors, Planning Commission, County officials, committee members, developers, engineers, planners, property owners, and citizens.
- Supervise and mentor planning staff while providing technical expertise and guidance.
- Oversee the review, analysis, and processing of land development applications, including and the preparation of reports, studies, correspondence, and other planning documents.
- Provide guidance on Comprehensive Plan interpretation and amendments, the Zoning Ordinance, the Subdivision Ordinance, application procedures, review processes, and related planning matters.
- Provide staff support for boards and committees.
Qualified candidates will have a bachelor's degree in urban planning or a related field (master's degree preferred) and at least eight years of progressively responsible experience in land development review, urban design, future planning, and community outreach.
