Desktop/Technical Support Technician

Warrenton, VA – 100% ON SITE (NO EXCEPTIONS!)

Duration: 6 months with possibility of extension.

Some travel may be required (up to 20% local travel to support a new site and up to 10% to the Hampton Roads area). The agency will reimburse mileage and lodging when needed.

Valid driver’s license and reliable personal transportation are required.

Support the Department of Veterans Services’ Puller Veterans Care Center (PVCC) in Warrenton, VA. The site will host about 200 IT devices (desktops, laptops, phones, printers, mobile phones). The candidate will provide IT administration and technical support for agency‑specific software and hardware systems.

• Candidate must have the McAfee Anti‑Virus Software, Adobe Acrobat, and other commercial business software products to be considered.
• Knowledge of setup, configuration, and maintenance of PC desktops, laptops, related peripheral devices (printers, scanners, etc.) and networking.
• Knowledge with setup, configuration, and troubleshooting of Android and Apple mobile devices.
• Supporting and troubleshooting Ethernet‑based LAN/WAN environments, including network protocols and concepts (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, etc.).
• Expert working knowledge of E‑mail application installation, administration, troubleshooting, and training (Google Suite, PST files, calendaring, distribution lists, etc.).
• Basic experience with IT inventory control, ticketing system, and reporting.
• Basic experience with analog and digital phone configuration and troubleshooting.
• Resolve network and infrastructure issues; set up, configure, manage, and troubleshoot routers, switches, and wireless access points.
• Resolve issues related to desktop and laptop PC hardware, desktop software, general application troubleshooting, mobile devices, and various telephone systems.
• Identify security vulnerabilities and report security incidents promptly.
• Track end‑user support activities through the ticketing system; monitor network and computer system performance.
• Coach and manage the daily duties of the contracted on‑site engineer.
• Own reliable transportation; the agency will reimburse travel expenses directly.

• Proficient knowledge of installing, troubleshooting, and administering Windows Operating System, Microsoft O365, Microsoft Edge, Google Chrome, and all IT assets.
• Document changes to systems, update training and system documentation, and create new procedures for solutions and issues.
• Clean driving record and dependable transportation for occasional light travel to satellite offices using personal vehicle.
• Good understanding of network and IT security.
• Professional and courteous attitude with customers, team members, and support vendors; strong communication skills.
