As a Key Holder, your focus is on the customer while maintaining inventory and operating efficiencies to ensure high levels of customer service. This position is a preparation for an assistant manager role and requires managing the store independently when scheduled as the manager on duty. The Key Holder provides leadership for staff, maintains store standards, trains staff, oversees store openings and closings, and protects store assets by maintaining operational policies and procedures.
JobFunctions
- Use the E.C.E.T. (Every Customer, Every Time) process with every customer interaction.
- Be customer ready whenever you are on the sales floor.
- Recommend related items and execute the S.A.L.E.S. process.
- Maintain awareness of all promotions and advertisements.
- Execute daily operational goals and priorities assigned by store management.
- Assist in the training and development of peers.
- Actively participate in daily huddle meetings.
- Uphold merchandising and store cleanliness standards.
- Participate in the processing of new shipments and keep the receiving and back stock area clean and organized.
- Greet every customer you make eye contact with, anywhere in the store.
- Know the proper way to answer the telephone.
- Be alert for possible merchandise losses and protect all company assets.
- Advise store management of any pricing errors.
- Be proficient at executing all store services such as mixing paint, cutting glass, pipe, and keys.
- Ensure all shipments are packed out correctly and all overstock is removed.
- Partner with store management to coach staff on inventory management best practices.
- Help train visual merchandisers to maintain and update plan‑ograms.
- Review daily W.E.A.D. (Walk Every Aisle Daily) appearance of in‑store displays and oversee changes to improve presentation.
- Monitor all store transfers and expedite outstanding transfers.
- Responsible for opening and closing the store and securing all store assets.
- Process damaged and defective goods promptly and accurately.
- Train staff on loss prevention procedures and protect company assets.
- Maintain a positive relationship with the store management team.
- Address all safety concerns immediately.
- Update store management on store and staff progress regularly.
- Be a positive, consistent, and respectful role model, communicating positively about store management and company strategies.
- Ensure company/store policies and procedures are communicated timely and adhered to.
- Walking – Frequent, Flat surfaces from point to point.
- Standing – Constant, All work performed on feet.
- Stooping – Frequent, To pick up cartons at floor level.
- Reaching – Frequent, To a height of 6 feet.
- Lifting – Frequent, Up to 60 lbs., up to 500 repetitions per hour to a height of 4 feet; must be able to lift up to 25 pounds comfortably.
- Hand Dexterity – Frequent, Must be able to use at least one hand to operate register and complete paperwork.
- Pushing/Pulling – Frequent, Move hand jacks from place to place.
- Carrying – Frequent, Up to 50 lbs., up to 10 feet, occasionally more.
- Climbing – Infrequent, Stairs in storage rooms; ladders.
- Vision – Constant, Read labels, recognize boxes, safety in working.
- Hearing – Constant, Safety Signals.
- Strong leadership skills.
- Ability to work in a fast‑paced, demanding environment.
- Excellent organization skills.
- Strong written and verbal skills.
- Must have reliable transportation.
- Must be willing to work in a team, as well as independently.
- Sense of urgency and follow‑through are essential.
- Prior work experience in a retail environment and prior management experience.
