Maintain safe and efficient travel conditions on Oregon roadways by providing emergency response to incidents and hazardous situations. Serve as on‑scene commander, first responder, and traffic movement facilitator in a fast‑paced, highly dynamic environment.
Responsibilities- Patrol roads, highways, and freeways in a specialized emergency vehicle to identify traffic hazards; develop removal plans and coordinate safe, expeditious hazard removal.
- Provide minor road service assistance to motorists; clear disabled vehicles from travel lanes and coordinate tow requirements as necessary.
- Respond immediately to incidents or hazardous situations that jeopardize safe and efficient movement of traffic.
- Lead on‑scene assessment, traffic control, and coordination of incident response activities in accordance with the Incident Command System.
- Perform emergency medical assessment at accidents, call for medical response teams, and provide basic first aid as appropriate.
- Oversee removal of wreckage, debris, and containment/removal of hazardous materials (Haz Mat) resulting from vehicle accidents or other incidents on the highway system.
- Assess incident impact on traffic flow; in coordination with Traffic Center Operators develop and implement emergency traffic controls that safely optimize traffic movement through or around the incident location.
- Clear hazardous road conditions, clean closed and open drainage systems to eliminate high water hazards, remove debris and animal carcasses from travel lanes, and perform emergency road repairs.
- Maintain equipment, shop facilities, vehicles, and tools in clean and serviceable condition.
- Work independently outdoors in all weather and traffic conditions; lifting up to 50 pounds and being on call, including nights and weekends, may be required.
- Minimum of two years of experience related to the duties of the position.
- At least one year of that experience must include public safety or transportation‑related experience.
- Driving is an essential function of this position. A valid U.S. driver’s license and an acceptable driving record are required. A driving record check will be conducted during the final selection process.
- The driver’s license does not have to be issued in Oregon.
- Maximum 45‑minute response time required to the emergency call‑out location at 1960 SE Dolphin Ave, Warrenton, Oregon 97146.
