- Base Salary:
Up to $140,000 + 10% bonus
- Tuesday–Thursday in-office
We are partnering with a growing transportation and logistics organization that provides freight, supply chain, and distribution services across North America. The company operates in a fast-paced, operationally focused environment where finance plays a critical role in supporting business performance, customer service, and strategic growth. The finance organization is seeking a hands-on Controller to oversee day-to-day accounting operations while partnering closely with executive leadership to strengthen financial reporting, improve processes, and support continued expansion.
TheOpportunity
The Controller will lead the organization's accounting function, overseeing financial reporting, general ledger, cash management, and the daily operations of the Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable teams. This is an excellent opportunity for either a current Controller or a strong Accounting Manager ready to step into a broader leadership role. The ideal candidate understands the financial complexities of transportation, logistics, freight brokerage, or other operationally intensive businesses and enjoys working in a hands-on environment.
Key Responsibilities- Lead the monthly, quarterly, and annual close process
- Prepare and review weekly, monthly, and annual financial statements and management reports
- Oversee the general ledger, chart of accounts, and financial reporting activities
- Ensure compliance with U.S. GAAP and company accounting policies
- Perform and review account reconciliations while maintaining strong internal controls
- Oversee all day-to-day accounting operations, including General Ledger, Accounts Payable, and Accounts Receivable
- Supervise, mentor, and develop a small accounting team
- Manage banking relationships, treasury activities, and cash management
- Monitor revenue recognition, cost allocations, operating expenses, and profitability
- Ensure accurate financial data across multiple systems and operational platforms
- Lead accounting process improvement initiatives and system enhancements
- Develop and document accounting policies and procedures
- Strengthen internal controls and financial reporting processes
- Improve operational efficiency through automation and workflow optimization
- Partner cross-functionally with operations, customer service, and executive leadership to solve business challenges
- Prepare financial analyses and reports to support operational and strategic decision-making
- Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow planning
- Support external audits and regulatory reporting requirements
- Participate in special projects and business improvement initiatives
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- CPA preferred but not required
- 5–8 years of progressive accounting experience
- Previous leadership experience managing accounting staff
- Experience with in transportation, logistics, freight brokerage, trucking, distribution, or supply chain organizations strongly preferred
- Strong understanding of the complete accounting cycle and financial statement preparation
- Experience overseeing General Ledger, Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, and treasury functions
- Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP
- Advanced Excel skills and experience working with ERP systems
- Excellent communication, organizational, and leadership skills
