Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated Construction Engineer to provide on-site oversight and management of construction projects. The role requires monitoring and ensuring compliance with project specifications, schedules, and budgets while coordinating with contractors, clients, and project stakeholders. The successful candidate will conduct field inspections, prepare detailed reports, review and interpret engineering plans and specifications, and ensure adherence to safety standards and regulatory requirements.

Additionally, this role involves supporting project documentation and progress tracking and communicating effectively with county and Department of Transportation (Use the "Apply for this Job" box below). Provide on-site oversight and management of construction projects.

+ Monitor and ensure compliance with project specifications, schedules, and budgets.

+ Coordinate with contractors, clients, and project stakeholders.

+ Conduct field inspections and prepare detailed reports.

+ Review and interpret engineering plans and specifications.

+ Ensure adherence to safety standards and regulatory requirements.

+ Support project documentation and progress tracking.

+ Communicate effectively with county and Department of Transportation  Skills

+ Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering.

+ 1-5 years of construction engineering experience.

+ Knowledge of IDOT materials and documentation procedures.

+ Proficiency in reading construction plans, verifying layouts, and calculating dimensions.

+ Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to maintain detailed daily logs.

+ Team-oriented with experience collaborating with clients, contractors, and residents.

+ Comfortable interacting with the public and resolving field issues.

+ Proficient in Microsoft Office for reporting.

+ Valid driver's license; willing to travel locally and work extended hours as needed.

Work Environment

This position is primarily field-based, with the individual spending 90-100% of the time on-site. The office is located in Warrenville, IL, with another office in Champaign, IL. The company has a flat organizational structure with 7-8 shareholder/principals leading market sectors and mentoring junior staff. The role involves working on municipal projects, roadway, county, local roads, underground utilities, and IDOT/tollway projects in the Northwest suburbs (Sycamore, Plainfield, Joliet).

This is a dual role allowing for design tasks and plan reviews during the off-season. A trailer or small office will be available on-site. The engineer will work on one job at a time and will use a company vehicle to travel directly to sites, without needing to visit the office daily. During the busy season, the work hours range from 40-55 hours per week, while the off-season focuses on design work in the office.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $75000.00 - $100000.00/yr.
