Job Description & How to Apply Below
Join the cyber security team at a leading energy company. This is a crucial, hands‑on role where you will support a principal engineer in building out a new, air‑gapped lab. Your mission will be to physically build, rack, and configure hardware and software that will be used to design the next generation of the company’s critical monitoring systems. This is an ideal role for an IT support professional who loves building new systems and working with hardware.
You will…
- Physically rack and cable new hardware, primarily HP servers and Cisco networking gear.
- Configure server hardware, including setting up RAID.
- Install and configure Windows Servers (e.g., Server 2019).
- Set up and configure virtual machines (VMs) using hypervisors (like ESXi, Hyper‑V, or Proxmox).
- Perform basic network configuration, including setting IP addresses, gateways, and routes.
- Assist in testing and documenting SIEM hardware, network infrastructure, and software.
- Use the GUI to configure basic firewall rules (on tools like Cisco FTD).
- Take daily direction from the principal engineer to complete lab setup tasks.
- You must be able to pass an extensive, nuclear‑grade background check, psychological evaluation, and a stringent drug test (zero‑tolerance policy).
- You must be able to work 100% on‑site in Warrenville, IL.
- You must be able and willing to travel to a nuclear site (Joliet/Morris area) monthly to maintain badge access.
- 3-5 years of experience in an IT Desktop Support, Server Support, or Infrastructure role.
- Strong, recent hands‑on experience with physically racking servers, running cables, and configuring hardware (RAID).
- Experience installing and configuring Windows Server operating systems.
- Experience setting up or importing virtual machines (VMs) in a hypervisor environment (e.g., VMWare ESXi, Hyper‑V).
- A solid understanding of basic networking (IP addresses, gateways, routes).
- Familiarity with Splunk (e.g., running searches or viewing dashboards).
- Experience using a GUI to manage firewall rules.
- Experience working with HP server hardware.
- A college degree is not required; your hands‑on experience is what matters most.
