Lead Electrical Engineer - Nuclear

Overview

This role offers a hybrid work arrangement. You will spend three days a week in the office and work remotely for two days.

• Lead the engineering team to deliver project outputs that meet technical, quality, financial and project control standards.
• Initiate and communicate the scope of work to group members; define deliverables such as calculations, specifications, drawings and design changes.
• Review status, track progress and maintain project scope/budget, keeping the client informed.
• Conduct routine status meetings, submit progress reports and resolve open items and emergent issues.
• Coordinate the completion of all project deliverables.
• Lead the team during the detailed design phases for all aspects of electrical engineering work, including interface and coordination with other disciplines.
• Develop project scope, cost estimates and schedules for complex electrical modifications at nuclear power plants.
• Prepare proposals for complex electrical modifications at nuclear power plants.
• Provide technical oversight and supervision for all electrical engineering activities, including:
  • Engineering design change packages to install, replace or upgrade existing plant equipment to ensure long‑term reliability.
  • Engineering calculations in support of design change packages, such as AC and DC power studies, short‑circuit, cable ampacity, voltage drop, breaker coordination, motor starting and protective relay settings.
  • Equipment procurement specifications.
  • Bid‑review evaluation processes for potential equipment vendors, including supporting vendor requests, developing responses and tracking communications.
• Interface with the client and implement personnel to validate scope and ensure client satisfaction.
• Mentor and guide the development of the group.
• Identify and follow up on client needs that may result in strategic opportunities.
• Leverage good client relationships to develop follow‑on work from existing clients.
• Prepare and coordinate multi‑discipline proposals.

In this role you will lead others who use modern tools such as automation and AI to enhance workflows and deliver cost‑effective designs. You will oversee engineers who program or script (e.g., Python, MATLAB, advanced Excel) to automate tasks, reviewing automated outputs. Preference is given to candidates with experience or training in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Software Engineering or related fields to effectively oversee AI‑enabled engineering workflows.

• A BSEE degree from an ABET‑accredited engineering program.
• Ten or more years’ experience designing electrical engineering systems for nuclear power plants.
• Three or more years leading an engineering design group through all phases of a project design.
• Experience selecting equipment, materials and assembling engineering design change packages, calculations and specifications.
• Experience serving as firm/client liaison in a support or lead engineering role.
• Experience with electrical system design, including low and medium voltage distribution systems (transformers, generators, motors, relays).
• Effective written and verbal communication skills to convey information to project team members and the client.
• Proficiency with MS Office applications.
• Detail‑oriented approach to work.
• Capable of being badged for unescorted access to a nuclear station.
• PE licensure is preferred.
