Position: Piping Stress Engineer 3 - Nuclear

Overview

The Piping Engineering & Analysis discipline performs evaluations for piping systems in accordance with ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code, ASME B31.1, ASME B31.7, and other applicable codes. The discipline also specializes in vibration monitoring, hydraulic transients, thermal stratification, pipe rupture, wall thinning due to flow‑accelerated corrosion (FAC) or microbiological‑induced corrosion (MIC), and pipe flaw evaluations.

Position Specific Details

Provides technical support on engineering projects by preparing calculations, specifications, component designs, and reports. Work is performed under minimal supervision.

Responsibilities
  • Prepares complex calculations and reviews simple calculations.
  • Reviews simple system/structural designs.
  • Prepares documented design input for drawing production (P&IDs and Master Diagrams) under supervision.
  • Writes specifications for balance‑of‑plant equipment.
  • Prepares bid evaluations and economic support calculations; solicits data from vendors.
  • Produces simple reports and studies.
  • Inputs project budgets, schedules, and work plans; monitors own work to meet deadlines.
  • Communicates technical information clearly in written and oral form.
  • Engages with vendors through complete specifications.
  • Applies accepted standards and processes to project tasks.
  • Mentors entry‑level engineers as needed.
Work Environment

Hybrid work schedule requiring in‑office presence three days per week.

Qualifications
  • BS or MS in Mechanical Engineering, Engineering Mechanics, Aerospace, Structural/Civil Engineering from an ABET‑approved program, emphasizing solid mechanics, structural analysis, elasticity, metallurgy, and finite element analysis.
  • At least 3 years of relevant experience.
  • Knowledge of ASME B31.1 and ASME B&PV Section III piping codes.
  • Familiarity with design, selection, and application of pipe supporting elements.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Valued—Not Required
  • P.E. license.
  • Knowledge of commercial piping products.
  • Navigation of 3D CAD models.
  • Experience with AutoPIPE or PIPESTRESS.
  • Knowledge of gas dynamics and hydraulic transients.
  • Knowledge of pipe condition assessment.
Automation & AI
  • Use modern tools and automation to solve engineering problems, improve workflows, and reduce rework.
  • Employ automation for calculations, document summarization, and design documentation.
  • Programming or scripting skills (Python, MATLAB, advanced Excel) are valued.
  • Additional training or certificates in Computer Science, AI, or related fields are welcomed.

Compensation Range

$74,353 - $113,595
