This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced ecology professional seeking a predominantly office-based role focused on project management, technical reporting and client delivery, rather than field survey work.
Joining a highly respected consultancy with a strong and expanding portfolio of infrastructure, renewable energy and land development projects, you will play a key role in coordinating ecological projects from inception through to completion while delivering high-quality technical outputs to clients across the UK.This position would suit a Senior Ecologist looking to utilise their technical knowledge and project management experience within a flexible, supportive and rapidly growing organisation.
Your new role As a Senior Ecologist, you will be responsible for leading and managing ecological projects, coordinating multidisciplinary teams and producing high-quality ecological reports to support planning and development projects.
The role is primarily desk-based, focusing on project delivery, report writing, technical review and client liaison rather than undertaking ecological field surveys.
- Managing ecological projects from proposal stage through to final delivery.
- Producing and reviewing a range of technical reports, including Ecological Impact Assessments (EcIA), Preliminary Ecological Appraisals (PEA), Habitat Regulations Assessments (HRA) and protected species reports.
- Coordinating ecological survey data and ensuring high-quality technical outputs.
- Managing project budgets, programmes and resource allocation.
- Liaising directly with clients, planning authorities and project stakeholders.
- Supporting the preparation of fee proposals and tender submissions.
- Providing ecological advice to project teams across a diverse range of developments.
- Supporting ecological inputs into Environmental Impact Assessments (EIA) where required.
- Contributing to Biodiversity Net Gain assessments and strategies.
- Assisting with protected species licencing applications and mitigation strategies.
- Mentoring junior consultants and assisting with their professional development.
- Supporting quality assurance processes and maintaining technical standards across projects.
- Degree qualified in Ecology, Environmental Science or a related subject.
- Several years' experience in ecological consultancy.
- Strong report writing and technical review skills.
- Experience managing ecological projects, budgets and client relationships.
- Knowledge of UK ecological legislation, planning policy and industry guidance.
- Experience producing EcIA, PEA and protected species reports.
- Understanding of Biodiversity Net Gain principles.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously.
- CIEEM membership or progress towards membership would be advantageous.
- Competitive salary of £40,000 - £50,000 depending on experience.
