Job Description & How to Apply Below

The Production Manager leads shop-floor execution for Louis Allis' low-volume, high-mix motor and generator manufacturing, repair, rewind, and service-support operations. The role owns safety, labor deployment, schedule execution, WIP flow, throughput and on-time delivery across machining, mechanical/repair, winding, naval/generator, field service and support functions.

Reporting to the President, Louis Allis, this is a hands-on operations leadership role and peer to Technical, Quality, Purchasing, Shipping/Receiving and other staff functions. The Production Manager keeps work moving by coordinating constraints, escalating risks and building a disciplined daily operating rhythm while leaving engineering design, drawing release and technical quoting decisions with the Technical Manager.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead daily execution across machining, mechanical/repair, winding, naval/generator, field service and production support teams.
  • Set priorities, assign labor, maintain floor presence, remove barriers and hold leads, operators and technicians accountable for safe, disciplined execution.
2. Scheduling, Labor & Throughput
  • Convert demand, project priorities, material status and technical release dates into daily/weekly schedules, staffing plans and recovery actions.
  • Manage WIP, bottlenecks, overtime, attendance, cross‑training, resource utilization, schedule attainment and escalation of delivery risks.
3. Safety, Quality & Process Discipline
  • Own shop‑floor safety expectations, PPE compliance, housekeeping, hazard recognition, OSHA requirements, company policy and safe‑work practices.
  • Partner with Quality and Technical to contain issues, reduce rework/scrap, improve first‑pass quality and strengthen travelers, work instructions, inspection points and corrective‑action follow‑through.
4. Cross‑Functional Delivery
  • Coordinate daily with Technical, Quality, Purchasing, Project Management, Sales, Shipping/Receiving and Field Service to keep jobs moving from release through shipment.
  • Provide clear status, constraint, recovery and risk updates to the LA President and peers; make fact‑based tradeoffs when safety, quality, cost and delivery pressures conflict.
5. People Leadership & Capability Building
  • Hire, coach, develop and performance‑manage leads, supervisors, operators, technicians and other production talent.
  • Build bench strength through cross‑training, succession planning, practical coaching, timely feedback and respect for skilled craft knowledge.
  • Use ERP/MRP discipline, production boards, daily management routines, KPI tracking and post‑job reviews to drive action rather than reporting for its own sake.
  • Improve schedule reliability, labor productivity, throughput, overtime control, 5S/organization and repeatability in a custom, repair‑oriented manufacturing environment.
Qualifications
  • 8+ years of manufacturing, repair, service‑center or industrial operations leadership experience with direct ownership of shop‑floor labor, schedule, safety, quality and delivery performance.
  • Proven success leading multiple departments, cells, crews, supervisors or leads in a low‑volume, high‑mix, engineered‑to‑order, repair/remanufacturing or custom industrial environment.
  • Experience with electromechanical equipment, motors/generators, rotating equipment
, machining, mechanical repair, winding, heavy assembly, field service or similarly complex industrial products strongly preferred.
  • Strong working knowledge of production scheduling, labor planning, ERP/MRP discipline, WIP management, visual management, KPI reporting and constraint escalation.
  • Demonstrated ability to improve safety, schedule attainment, labor productivity, throughput, rework, housekeeping and operating discipline through practical daily management.
  • Strong people leadership skills: coaching, accountability, performance management, hiring/onboarding, cross‑training, conflict resolution and communication with skilled hourly teams.
  • Bachelor's degree in Manufacturing, Operations, Engineering
, Business or a related field preferred; equivalent hands‑on manufacturing leadership experience will be considered.
  • Preferred:
Lean, Six Sigma, root‑cause problem solving, daily…
