Job Description

Reports to: WELA Director and WACC Director

General

Summary:

The Teaching Assistant will assist our WELA staff in overseeing the general welfare, health, and safety of children in our early learning academy.

Essential Responsibilities
  • Assist the lead teacher with implementing educational activities and daily classroom routines.
  • Work cooperatively with teaching staff to plan, prepare, and carry out age‑appropriate classroom activities.
  • Maintain a classroom environment that is clean, safe, organized, fun, and interactive.
  • Support children in developing personal hygiene, self‑help skills, social skills, and independence.
  • Use positive redirection and appropriate behavior guidance techniques.
  • Provide one‑on‑one support to children who need individual attention or assistance.
  • Assist with meal preparation, serving, supervision, and clean‑up while modeling appropriate mealtime behavior.
  • Help ensure the classroom and facilities are maintained in accordance with health, safety, and sanitation regulations.
  • Communicate professionally with parents and guardians, under the direction of the lead teacher or administration, to support each child’s success.
  • Perform other reasonably related duties as assigned by the Academy Director.
Qualifications
  • Education – High school diploma
  • Experience in childcare settings, preferred Associate of Arts degree in Early Childhood Education, or Child Development Associate Credential.
  • Required:

    Pediatric CPR and First Aid, drug screen, and fingerprint background check.

Length of Position: 190 days / 40 hours a week

Position Type: Non‑Exempt
