POSITION SUMMARY

The Specialized Reading and Support Tutor provides structured literacy intervention to struggling readers who are currently performing below grade level, as well as students with deeper, diagnosed reading difficulties, such as dyslexia, who would benefit from a more individualized learning environment. Using evidence-based approaches such as Orton-Gillingham or similar methodologies, the tutor delivers direct, individualized instruction while collaborating closely with families, educational professionals, and other service providers.

This role supports the child’s ability to become an independent, confident reader.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
  • Deliver one-on-one and small group therapy using a structured literacy approach.
  • Address phonological awareness, decoding, spelling, reading fluency, and comprehension skills.
  • Customize intervention plans based on student needs and learning profiles.
  • Progress Monitoring and Documentation:
  • Administer assessments to determine instructional level and track progress.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation of tutoring sessions and outcomes.
  • Collaboration and Family Support:
  • Communicate regularly with parents regarding student progress and at-home strategies
  • Work alongside other team members including speech-language pathologists and occupational therapists.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary meetings and contribute to individualized plans of care .
  • Professional Practice:
  • Engage in ongoing training and certification updates in structured literacy methods.
  • Promote a compassionate and encouraging learning atmosphere.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor’s degree in education, literacy , or related field required . This must be provided within 30 days of hire.

Previous experience with and/or willingness to complete Orton-Gillingham (O-G) training within the first year of employment.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Certified Academic Language Practitioner (CALP) preferred or willingness to pursue within two years

Experience in a multidisciplinary clinical or school setting.

PHYSICAL DEMAND CAPACITY

Sitting:
Routinely for sessions and documentation.

Lifting:
Occasionally light loads (5-10 pounds).

Bending & Reaching:
Occasionally during therapy activities.

Work Hours and Documentation Policy

Tutors may not exceed a total of 29 hours per week across all assigned responsibilities, including patient-facing sessions, documentation, and preparation time.

If documentation and preparation exceeds three (3) hours per student, the tutor must immediately notify the Director of Tutoring to review caseload, expectations, or workflow adjustments.

It is the responsibility of each tutor to proactively manage their schedule and communicate with leadership to ensure compliance with this policy.

EXPOSURE DETERMINATION

Has no potential for hazardous substances or blood borne pathogen exposure

All employees must provide documentation of required immunizations or submit an approved vaccination waiver within thirty (30) calendar days of their hire date. Required immunizations include Hepatitis B, Measles, Mumps, and Rubella (MMR), Varicella (Chickenpox), and Pertussis (Tdap). Failure to provide the required documentation or approved waiver within the required timeframe may result in termination of employment.

HIPAA STATUS

May access and use educational and therapy-related Protected Health Information (PHI) and Electronic PHI (EPHI) in compliance with ‘minimum necessary’ standards.

All required employment documentation, including educational credentials, immunization records, and/or approved vaccination waivers, must be submitted within thirty (30) calendar days of the employee's hire date. Employees are responsible for ensuring that all documentation is complete and received by the organization within the required timeframe . Failure to meet these requirements may affect employment status.

Requirements

We are currently looking for tutors to work Monday
- Thursday 7:30-10:30 am and Monday
- Thursday 3:30-7:30 pm.
