Position: Senior Manufacturing Engineer - NPI - Warsaw, IN

Responsibilities
  • Responsible for the development of all machining, metal finishing and assembly methods for assigned product lines.
  • Partner with the Project Engineer to determine Make vs. Buy decisions.
  • Participate in print reviews and partner with Quality Engineering to determine gages and measurement procedures.
  • Create conceptual designs for new fixtures, gages and special cutting tools.
  • Conduct tool design reviews with the Tooling Team, purchasing personnel and outside tool suppliers.
  • Determine appropriate machine platform for products and review necessary capital equipment requirements.
  • Represent Warsaw on new product launch activities and product transfer.
  • Complete activities of the change control policy and the Corrective and Preventive Action (CAPA) system in line with Medtronic Corporate CAPA system.
  • Lead Lean Sigma projects and process improvements.
  • Review product drawings for manufacturability and initiate drawing changes with design engineers to improve quality and reduce costs.
  • Provide periodic updates to senior management, maintain project documentation, plans, action‑item registers and manage risks related to cost, quality and schedule.
  • Partner with Quality during risk‑management activities.
  • Lead and actively participate in design reviews, e.g., DFMEA and PFMEA.
  • Provide technical support to purchasing personnel and suppliers by interpreting drawings, initiating manufacturing drawings and resolving production problems.
  • Develop the manufacturing plan for new products and coordinate entry of Manufacturing Process Planning information into the MRP system.
  • Support development of validation/qualification studies.
  • Determine strategy with appropriate teams and ensure early involvement of engineering groups.
  • Provide tooling‑selection input with the CNC Programmer to maintain existing tool maps.
  • Troubleshoot CNC programming problems on the production floor and coordinate necessary program changes.
  • Develop manufacturing set‑up/process sheets for all machining, assembly and finishing operations for new products.
  • Review engineering drawing changes and initiate appropriate changes in manufacturing tools, fixtures, processes, CNC programs, bills of material or routings.
  • Document all changes through the Manufacturing Engineering process‑control system.
  • Resolve technical production problems on assigned product lines with shop employees and quality personnel.
  • Conduct technical manufacturing reviews of suppliers to support purchasing personnel in certifying suppliers.
  • Make recommendations to management on plant layout and equipment acquisition.
  • Work with equipment suppliers on equipment specifications, quotations and delivery schedules.
  • Initiate and direct improvements in current manufacturing methods and processes to improve quality, schedule performance and reduce costs.
  • Lead training of new team personnel and train shop employees on new manufacturing methods, products and equipment.
  • Travel as required for company business transactions.
  • Support product launch and core business initiatives using project‑management tools.
  • Seek resources, track and communicate status of product launch, and provide solutions to launch issues and opportunities.
  • Collaborate with key stakeholders to ensure smooth transition of design from concept to delivery.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 4 years of relevant experience.
  • Master’s degree with a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience.
  • PhD with 0 years of relevant experience.
Nice to Have
  • Experience using risk‑management tools such as PFMEAs or other control plans.
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing needs, with the ability to research, develop and implement tools, processes, machines and equipment to produce quality products efficiently and safely.
  • 7+ years of hands‑on technical experience in a machining environment, with advanced knowledge of machine platforms and subsequent processes such as finishing, packaging, laser etching, assembly, blasting or clean‑room operations.
  • Society of Manufacturing Engineers certification as a "Certified Manufacturing Engineer".
  • Formal training in Project Management.
  • Formal training in Lean Manufacturing concepts.
  • For Baccalaureate degrees earned outside the United States, a degree that satisfies the requirements of 8 C.F.R. §214.2(h)(4)(iii)(A).
