Medtronic is seeking a CNC Programmer – Engineering Tech V to join our Warsaw, Indiana manufacturing site. In this role, you will support key initiatives to optimize production, ensure quality, and advance our mission to improve lives.
You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to solve complex challenges and may work on cutting-edge technologies and processes while contributing to the production of life-saving medical devices.
- Responsible for the development of all CNC machining program code.
- Review engineering drawings and initiate changes or recommendations for manufacturing tools, fixtures, CNC programs through the change control system.
- Provide technical support to engineers to improve cycle time, yield, unit cost, quality, safety and compliance of production and operations processes and products.
- Monitor instruments and equipment and collect operating data, including calibration, inspection, testing and repair activities to assist in making on-line adjustments.
- Analyze and resolve malfunctions and deviations of instruments and control systems.
- Conduct analyses and prepare reports using metrics from salvage tracking, trending, reporting and root-cause analyses.
- Maintain process designs to optimize process, equipment and facility use while conforming to SOPs and GMPs.
- Complete activities of the change control policy and CAPA system in accordance with policy.
- Work in cross-collaborative teams to execute risk management activities (e.g., PFMEA).
- Create conceptual designs for new fixtures and special cutting tools, including tool design reviews with Tooling Team personnel, purchasing personnel and outside tool suppliers.
- May make recommendations to leadership on plant layout and machine platform selection, including capital equipment requirements and tool holders.
- Develop manufacturing setup sheets for machining operations for new products.
- May recommend equipment acquisitions and work with equipment suppliers on specifications, quotes and delivery schedules.
- Review product drawings for manufacturability and initiate drawing changes with the product design engineer to improve manufacturing quality and reduce costs.
- Proactively execute and support development of validation and qualification studies and provide input to assist in developing the strategy with appropriate teams.
- Support product launches, transfers, and core business initiatives.
- May lead training of new team members and training for new CNC programs, processes or equipment.
- Travel as required for company business needs.
- Requires a minimum of 15 years of relevant experience.
- Requires high school diploma or equivalent.
- Experience with CAM/CAD software:
Mastercam, Pro/E and Vericut. - Direct experience providing machining support such as creating new programs, troubleshooting and/or updating existing programs.
- Advanced understanding of machine platforms such as mills, chuckers and Swiss-style lathes.
- Proven experience troubleshooting machining issues, developing tools and programming solutions to meet quality and safety goals.
- Working knowledge of industry standards and regulatory requirements (e.g., ISO 13485, ISO 14971, MDD 93/42 EEC, PAL, CMDR, 21 CFR Part 820).
- Understanding of how compliance impacts job responsibilities and access to resources to determine impact.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Good interpersonal skills and ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to work under pressure and maintain a positive, enthusiastic attitude.
- Willingness to participate in continuous improvement initiatives and expand responsibilities.
