Controls and Automation Engineer - Seats
WHO WE ARE LOOKING FORWe are seeking a seasoned Controls & Automation Engineer with strong automotive manufacturing experience to help build and improve high-performing production systems. This person will bring deep expertise in automation, robotics, PLC programming, and equipment integration, ideally within General Assembly environments. You will play a key role in designing, optimizing, and sustaining automation systems that drive safety, quality, and production performance.

WORK AUTHORIZATION REQUIREMENTApplicants must be authorized to work in the United States on a permanent basis. Visa sponsorship is not available at this time.
WHAT YOU WILL DOLead the development, integration, and optimization of automated manufacturing systems.
Design, program, and troubleshoot PLCs, HMIs, robotics, vision systems, and safety controls.
Drive root-cause analysis and resolution of automation-related issues across production and supplier systems.
Support plant layout, equipment selection, and material flow improvements to increase throughput and reliability.
Lead and support continuous improvement efforts focused on cycle time, uptime, error-proofing, and cost.
Partner cross-functionally with Engineering, Quality, Production, and Supply Chain teams.
Support new product launches through development of automated processes, PFMEAs, and control plans.
Maintain system documentation including schematics, standards, and troubleshooting guides.
Track key automation metrics such as uptime, MTTR, MTBF, and cycle time, and develop action plans.
Train and mentor technicians, operators, and engineers on systems and best practices.
WHAT YOU BRINGEducation
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, Mechatronics, Mechanical Engineering, or related field.
Experience
8 or more years of controls, automation, or mechatronics engineering experience in automotive or high-volume manufacturing.
Proven experience supporting General Assembly automation, including commissioning and optimization.
Experience in startup or greenfield environments is a plus.
Skills
Strong PLC programming experience with platforms such as Allen-Bradley or Siemens.
Experience with robotics such as Fanuc, ABB, or KUKA, along with motion control and vision systems.
Solid understanding of electrical troubleshooting, safety systems, and root-cause analysis.
Strong communication and collaboration skills across teams.
Proven ability to improve uptime, quality, and efficiency.
Working knowledge of AutoCAD Electrical, Visio, and Microsoft Office tools.
COMPENSATION Base salary range: $89,000 to $134,000 annually. Actual compensation will vary based on experience, skills, and other relevant factors.
