Our client is seeking a Plant Vehicle Engineer – SUV General Assembly to support vehicle launch readiness, production quality, and continuous improvement for SUV vehicle configurations.
This role will serve as the engineering connection between the manufacturing plant, Design & Release Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Quality, Production, Suppliers, Safety, Vehicle Integration, and Service teams.
The ideal candidate will have hands‑on automotive experience supporting General Assembly operations, vehicle launches, production issue resolution, engineering changes, and vehicle integration concerns . This position is highly plant-focused and requires someone comfortable spending significant time supporting production activities on the plant floor.
The successful candidate will help protect product intent, improve first‑time quality, reduce rework, and resolve vehicle build issues involving structure, restraints, interiors, exteriors, closures, sealing, and vehicle integration.
Required Skills & Qualifications- 5+ years of automotive engineering experience supporting vehicle manufacturing, launch, quality, General Assembly, vehicle integration, or product engineering.
- Hands‑on experience supporting automotive production plants , including troubleshooting issues directly on the assembly floor.
- Experience with General Assembly (GA) operations , vehicle builds, production ramp‑up, launch readiness, or manufacturing support.
- Strong background in root cause analysis and corrective action methods , including 8D, 5 Why, containment, and permanent corrective actions.
- Experience supporting engineering changes , including ECR/ECO implementation, BOM changes, production breakpoints, and change coordination.
- Ability to troubleshoot vehicle‑level concerns including:
- Fit and finish
- Closures
- Seating systems
- Restraints
- Fasteners
- Wind noise
- Squeaks and rattles
- Experience working cross‑functionally with:
- Design & Release Engineering
- Manufacturing Engineering
- Quality
- Production
- Vehicle Integration Teams
- Ability to spend significant time supporting production operations on the manufacturing floor.
- OEM or Tier 1 automotive launch experience.
- Experience supporting SUV vehicle programs or complex vehicle configurations.
- Background with vehicle systems including:
- Interior systems
- Seating
- Closures
- Exterior trim
- Roof systems
- Body structures
- Weather sealing
- Water management
- Experience with:
- APQP
- PFMEA
- Control Plans
- DFM/DFA reviews
- Quality systems
- Deviation/waiver processes
- Experience supporting prototype, pilot, and production validation builds.
- Knowledge of vehicle BOMs, drawings, specifications, and technical documentation.
- Experience coordinating supplier‑related production issues.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to influence cross‑functional teams.
- Support SUV General Assembly launch activities and ongoing production execution.
- Investigate and resolve vehicle build issues related to installation, fit/function, craftsmanship, sealing, and component interfaces.
- Partner with Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, Production, and Suppliers to identify root causes and implement corrective actions.
- Support prototype builds, pilot builds, production readiness reviews, break point coordination, and launch issue closure.
- Analyze production data, audit findings, repair trends, teardown feedback, and plant concerns to identify improvement opportunities.
- Review and improve manufacturing documentation including work instructions, inspection standards, repair procedures, and quality alerts.
- Support engineering changes, deviation approvals, containment actions, and production change implementation.
- Drive continuous improvement activities to improve first‑time quality, reduce rework, and increase production robustness.
