Position Summary
The CNC Machinist I produces machined parts by operating a computer numerical control (CNC) machine; maintains quality and safety standards; keeps records; and maintains equipment and supplies. The role requires these tasks to be completed within Tecomet's principles of continuous improvement, customer‑driven innovation, and a win‑first culture, while meeting company financial and other performance metrics.
Responsibilities- Operate CNC machines within specified tolerances following work instructions and in accordance with machine programs and engineering drawings.
- Change dull tooling, make minor offsets and adjustments as needed for tooling wear.
- Ensure product quality by working to operator‑owned quality (OOQ) standards, using measuring equipment, and interpreting inspection reports.
- Perform routine maintenance per daily machine checklist and adhere to the preventive maintenance schedule.
- Perform hand finishing.
- Follow Good Manufacturing and Good Document Practices (GMP/GDP) including completion of job routers/cards.
- Maintain safe working practices, minimize risks, and identify and report safety, health & environmental issues.
- Achieve set productivity targets and identify ways of improving productivity.
- Record all activities in a timely manner on the job tracking system.
- Support continuous improvement activities.
- Escalate manufacturing issues to the Team Leader and/or Supervisor and participate in resolution as required.
- Maintain 5S/housekeeping standards within the work area.
- Perform other duties or special projects as required or assigned by supervisor.
- High School diploma or general education degree (GED) required.
- Experience working in a production environment (E/D).
- Associate's degree or certificate in Tooling & Machining or Machinist apprenticeship preferred.
- GCSE/NVQ Math and English desirable (UK only).
- Ability or demonstrable aptitude to operate and maintain a CNC machine.
- Solid math skills, including measuring and maintaining count records.
- Effective at planning, prioritizing, and organizing tasks with the ability to handle competing demands within specified timescales.
- Proven record of quality and on‑time production runs.
- Commitment to safety at all times.
- Attention to detail and ability to perform repeatable tasks over a prolonged period.
- Positive attitude, reliability, and team‑player mentality.
- Ability to identify problems and elevate them as required.
- Good communication skills, written and verbal.
- Solid computer skills.
