Process Engineer, Body Position Summary

The Process Engineer, Body is responsible for supporting, sustaining, and improving manufacturing processes within a vehicle body assembly environment. This role works closely with production, quality, dimensional, and maintenance teams to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality operations. The ideal candidate is a hands-on problem solver who thrives in a fast-paced manufacturing setting and is passionate about continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities
  • Production Process Support & Improvement Monitor daily production activities to ensure safety, quality, productivity, and throughput objectives are achieved.
  • Analyze manufacturing processes and implement improvements to reduce downtime, scrap, and rework.
  • Lead and support production process changes while minimizing disruption to operations.
  • Conduct time studies, capacity evaluations, and bottleneck analyses to optimize manufacturing flow and equipment utilization.
  • Identify opportunities to improve process stability, efficiency, and overall plant performance.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration Partner with Production, Quality, Maintenance, and other operations teams to address manufacturing challenges and support daily production needs.
  • Engage with operators, team leaders, and supervisors to gather feedback and implement practical process improvements.
  • Lead root cause investigations and drive corrective and preventive actions for recurring issues.
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives that enhance safety, quality, and operational performance.
  • Quality & Process Reliability Ensure manufacturing processes consistently meet established quality standards and customer requirements.
  • Monitor critical process parameters and proactively address issues before defects occur.
  • Support quality improvement initiatives through process control, inspection methods, and data-driven problem solving.
  • Drive process consistency and reliability across body assembly operations.
  • Safety & Compliance Ensure all manufacturing activities comply with applicable safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements.
  • Develop, maintain, and improve standard operating procedures and safe work practices.
  • Promote a culture of safety and accountability throughout the production environment.
  • Support safety investigations and corrective actions as needed.
  • Documentation & Reporting Maintain process documentation, work instructions, and standard operating procedures.
  • Track and report key performance indicators related to quality, efficiency, downtime, and continuous improvement activities.
  • Document process modifications and ensure change management procedures are followed.
  • Provide regular updates on project status, improvement initiatives, and operational performance.
Qualifications
  • Required Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field.
  • 6-8 years of process engineering experience within a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience supporting production operations and implementing process improvements.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and root cause analysis skills.
  • Experience with Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, and continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate across multiple functions.
  • Proficiency with manufacturing data systems and process analysis tools.
  • Preferred Experience in automotive body assembly, body shop operations, or vehicle manufacturing environments.
  • Preferred Knowledge of welding, joining, dimensional control, and body structure manufacturing processes.
  • Preferred Experience leading production changes and process optimization projects in a high-volume manufacturing setting.
