Job Details

Key Responsibilities and Duties

  • Fabricate, reproduce, modify, and repair tooling, fixtures, gauges, existing parts, and production components.
  • Work from engineering drawings, sketches, models, specifications, and verbal instructions.
  • Determine the most efficient and cost-effective method for laying out and completing assigned work.
  • Set up and operate CNC equipment used for precision metal and plastic machining.
  • Operate conventional mills, lathes, grinders, and other metal-cutting or plastic-working equipment.
  • Perform precision grinding, fitting, finishing, and inspection of tooling and components.
  • Machine materials including stainless steel, titanium, Zimaloy, UHMWPE plastic, ceramics, cold- and hot-rolled steel, brass, tool steels, aluminum, rubber, and castings.
  • Verify dimensions, tolerances, fit, and functionality using appropriate precision measuring equipment.
  • Troubleshoot tooling issues and make modifications or repairs that support production requirements.
  • Collaborate with manufacturing, engineering, and other toolroom personnel in a team-based environment.
  • Maintain accurate, detailed work while following applicable safety, quality, and manufacturing procedures.
  • Travel up to 5% when required.

Qualifications Needed:

  • Must meet at least one of the following experience or education pathways:
  • Completion of the Zimmer Biomet Aspire Tool & Die Trainee Program
  • Associate degree in Tool & Die with at least three years of relevant toolmaking experience
  • At least six years of hands-on toolmaking experience
  • Completion of an approved four-year Tool & Die Apprenticeship Program
  • Hands-on experience fabricating, modifying, or repairing tooling, fixtures, gauges, dies, or precision components.
  • Strong working knowledge of CNC machining equipment and conventional mills, lathes, grinders, and other metal-cutting equipment.
  • Ability to independently interpret sketches, blueprints, models, dimensions, tolerances, and verbal instructions.
  • Experience laying out and sequencing toolroom work efficiently from the available technical information.
  • Working knowledge of tool steels, stainless steel, aluminum, brass, titanium, plastics, ceramics, rubber, and cast materials.
  • Ability to perform accurate precision machining, grinding, fitting, and inspection.
  • Willingness to work 3rd shift and travel up to 5%.
