Manufacturing Quality Engineer - General Assembly

Job Overview

Slate is seeking an experienced Manufacturing Quality Engineer to predominantly focus on new product and process development, ensuring a safe and successful plant launch.

Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States on a permanent basis. Visa sponsorship is not available.

• Must be willing to relocate to Warsaw, IN. Relocation assistance will be provided.

• Develop and implement robust quality assurance and control processes for Sub-Assembly and General Assembly.
• Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to integrate quality requirements into the manufacturing process.
• Conduct root‑cause analysis and implement corrective and preventive actions for technical and process quality issues.
• Perform regular audits and inspections of manufacturing processes, ensuring adherence to quality standards and specifications during the new car launch.
• Work closely with suppliers through the supplier quality team to establish and monitor quality expectations for incoming materials and components.
• Develop and maintain quality documentation, including control plans, inspection procedures, and quality manuals.
• Apply risk assessment tools to minimize risk and verify the robustness of detection and prevention systems for special characteristics.
• Support the development and maintenance of FMEAs.
• Define quality processes and technical standards in cooperation with development, product management, and manufacturing.
• Assist in planning and evaluating product test drives within quality and approvals of functions and systems.
• Provide quality support to technical and manufacturing teams, and drive/support daily operations.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

• 8+ years of related experience with a Bachelor’s degree, 6 years with a Master’s degree, or 3 years with a PhD or equivalent experience.
• Strong technical understanding and sound knowledge of product/vehicle development and production focused on manufacturing plant launch.
• Proven history of engaging in new program launches on time while achieving metrics.
• Excellent product and process assessment skills, problem‑solving and root‑cause capabilities.
• In‑depth knowledge of quality management, including Quality Assurance and Quality Control disciplines.
• Strong teamwork and communication skills, high level of assertiveness, entrepreneurial thinking, and result‑oriented decision‑making.
• Proven track record of engaging and participating in high‑performing teams.
• Proficiency with commonly applied quality tools and automotive industry processes (e.g., AIAG, IATF 16949, MSA, SPC, APQP, PPAP).
• Working knowledge of core documentation – FMEAs and Control Plans.
• Highest level of integrity and data‑driven decision making.
• Ability to thrive in a dynamic, fast‑paced startup environment.
