Controller - School District Experience Required
CFS has partnered with a public‑sector educational organization in seeking an experienced Remote Interim Controller to provide leadership and hands‑on accounting support during a critical fiscal year‑end and audit period. This individual will serve as a key resource to the finance team and must be able to step in quickly with minimal training.

Hybrid in Warwick, RI or remote, depending on candidate’s location
Salary Range: $100,000 - $110,000
Controller Responsibilities- Lead and support year‑end close activities and audit preparation.
- Prepare journal entries, reconciliations, and financial reports.
- Run and analyze reports for auditors and state reporting requirements.
- Support AP, AR, payroll, and general accounting functions.
- Provide guidance to accounting staff and help resolve accounting and system‑related questions.
- Ensure proper account classifications and support overall financial operations.
- MUST have direct accounting experience within a K‑12 school district or school system.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- Strong experience with financial reporting, reconciliations, month‑end/year‑end close, and audits.
- Advanced Excel skills, including Pivot Tables and VLOOKUPs.
- Excellent communication skills and a collaborative approach.
- Ability to work independently and support multiple stakeholders.
- Experience with Munis ERP software.
- Prior Controller, Assistant Controller, or Senior Accounting leadership experience.
- Experience in union and non‑union environments.
