ResponsibilitiesResponsible for identifying, investigating and presenting external products, product lines, technologies, companies and investment opportunities which will positively impact top line sales growth for Surgery. This position will identify, investigate, assess, and make recommendations to New Business development Directors pertaining to the deal specific value proposition for BDI Surgery to acquire new lines of sales and businesses. This position will also support market assessments for adjacent markets to help prioritize internal and external opportunities outside of the core BDI Surgery markets.
This position reports to the New Business Development Director and works closely with BDI Surgery’s senior management team. This position interfaces with appropriate Surgery management and will work with Corporate Development to the negotiation strategy and tactics of Surgery’s deals. This position will also work closely with legal to review draft contracts for proposed transactions.
- This position requires a Bachelor’s Degree plus a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience or equivalency.
- An MBA degree is a plus.
- Demonstrated positive communication, negotiation and human relation skills are also necessary for this position.
This position requires a background in the medical device industry: clinician needs and drivers, products and technologies, development and small cap companies, and competitors.
Additional Qualifications- Must demonstrate capability to conduct an in-depth assessment of organizational, financial, technical, and functional capabilities of a potential NBD target.
- Must also have demonstrated analytical and strategic thinking skills, and capability to provide sound advice to Surgery’s management team.
- External Relationships:
Investment bankers, venture capitalists and surgeons with product ideas and key managers of potential acquisition targets, including CEO, COO, CFO and other executives.
- Ability to rapidly assimilate a diverse amount of information and the capability to build a business plan to support acquisitions.
- Proficient with financial statements, competitive analysis valuations and function assessments.
- Effective negotiating skills.
- Ability to build both formal and informal teams to complete relevant phases of the BD process.
- Effective writing and presenting skills.
- Must be able to analyze business relevancy of the deal-related issues and communicate implications to internal stakeholders.
- Must understand and gain input on relevant due diligence and contractual matters from Surgery’s leadership within each functional area.
- Effective skills at influence and persuasion.
- This function identifies opportunities which are generally disruptive to the internal organization and at times, to the target organization. The incumbent must have the ability to build supportive teams within BDI Surgery, across BD, and into the target organization.
- Must possess a track record indicating successful execution utilizing strong project and program management skills.
- Broad commercial management experience (finance, sales, marketing and/or product development) and a demonstrated track record of achievement in the medical device or related industry.
