JOB SUMMARY

The associate in arts (A.A.) in Community Planning is a two-year degree that provides students with a comprehensive foundation in community planning, including zoning and land use regulations, site plan review, sustainable development, state and local government, research methods, communication strategies, and Geographic Information Systems (GIS). Students will also participate in experiential learning through internships, cooperative work experiences, and project-based learning with municipal and regional planning partners.

The A.A. prepares graduates for immediate employment as Planning Technician.

  • Work collaboratively in a diverse, inclusive, and student-centered environment, with students of various learning styles, cultures, identities, and life-experiences.
Instructional Skills
  • Plan, develop, present, and modify courses from proposal, to syllabus, to delivery (classroom, hybrid, or online), to assessment, to evaluation.
  • Teach assigned courses including Introduction to Community Planning, Site Planning, and The Comprehensive Plan.
  • Convey knowledge and skills effectively to students.
  • Continue professional development as an educator.
  • Use advanced technologies to expand student resources and learning opportunities.
  • Assess student learning according to best practices in measurement of student performance objectives and outcomes.
  • Demonstrate creativity and flexibility in pedagogical approaches to a diverse population of students and peers.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Master’s degree in Community Planning, Urban Planning, or a closely related master's degree earned through a Planning Accreditation Board-accredited graduate program.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • PhD in Community Planning, Urban Planning, or closely related field
  • College-level teaching experience, especially in the online modality
