BD Interventional Surgery, located in Warwick, RI, is a leading developer, manufacturer, and marketer of innovative, life‑enhancing medical technologies. Our team values learning, growth, and excellence, and we continually build our workforce with qualified, team‑oriented individuals. This internship offers exposure to the medical device field and hands‑on experience within the Research & Development group in an engineering capacity.
Under direct supervision, you will work with cross‑functional product development teams, contribute to design solutions, advance new product development projects, build test samples, analyze data, and establish performance standards for newly designed or modified products, processes or materials.
Duties Include- Undertakes and successfully completes simple or basic project/product development tasks, such as building and evaluating product prototypes, developing and writing test methods, documenting new product concepts, and recording all test results and assembly processes.
- Attends and contributes to product development meetings with representatives from Marketing, Regulatory, Manufacturing, Quality, and other functions.
- Creates or invents new concepts and designs for new products, processes, or test methods.
- Designs, procures, and fabricates simple tooling and fixtures.
- Designs and coordinates engineering tests and experiments.
- Participates in innovation challenges sponsored by the organization.
- Communicates technical results and findings to a broad audience of varied technical expertise.
- Completes basic tasks on engineering documentation.
- Trains technicians/operators on new processes and/or test procedures.
- Identifies areas for improvement, suggests solutions, and submits idea records.
- Completes special projects as assigned.
- Must be enrolled in an accredited college or university, be in good academic standing, and be pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Biomedical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science/Engineering, Polymer Science/Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related field.
- Only students in their sophomore year or above will be considered.
- A minimum GPA of 3.0 is required (or 4.0 for programs with a 5.0 scale).
- Demonstrated record of leadership or participation in campus programs and/or community service activities.
- Driven individual with an interest in medical device development and available to work on‑site during the internship period.
