Product Development Engineer II

Provides direct project leadership for the design and development of new and improved medical devices. Performance against the schedule directly impacts division commitments in the business plan.

• Use the concurrent engineering process to design and develop new and improved medical devices.
• Review design objectives with marketing and management to ensure the product meets business and clinical goals.
• Support the creation of project plans and schedules together with project teams.
• Coordinate the development of prototypes, lab testing samples, and fixtures.
• Formulate and approve product specifications, materials, assemblies, and processes.
• Collaborate with Advanced Manufacturing Engineering, Manufacturing and Quality Engineering groups to start-up production of new products.
• Research the external market for new materials and processes that enhance product design and performance.
• Collaborate with clinicians to determine and validate user needs and refine product design.
• Review and analyze cost data to identify, plan and implement cost improvements.
• Conduct design review meetings in accordance with company procedures.
• Communicate progress and any issues to supervisors and all levels of management.
• Perform and/or supervise development testing.
• Conduct design control activities, including user needs assessment, product performance specifications, hazards analysis, DFMEA, design verification and validation.
• Participate in special projects as assigned.

• BS degree in Engineering with a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience.
• Comprehensive knowledge of the product development process and engineering principles.
• Demonstrated track record of contributing to new product development from concept through commercialization.
• Ability to lead the development and design of products and processes, perform tests, generate technical documents, and analyze problems with limited supervision.
• Ability to provide technical solutions for moderate to high complexity problems and make decisions that balance technical options.
• Willingness to travel up to 25%.
