Aspire Dermatology is seeking a Mohs technician full time to help our growing practice.

Company description

Aspire Dermatology, with twelve conveniently located offices throughout Rhode Island, is a highly professional provider of a full range of dermatology services from skin screenings and cosmetic procedures to Mohs surgery. The Mohs Technician is a multi-functional role in which you will work closely with our Mohs surgeon to prepare and process histologic specimens, ensuring the highest standards of patient care and laboratory accuracy.

Hours

Full Time, 40 hours, Monday -- Friday (and occasional Saturdays); 8:00 am -- 5:00 pm (or similar hours, must be flexible)

Starting pay rate range: $26.00 - $30.00 per hour, based on education, certifications, and experience.

Job description

Provides support to our Mohs surgeon. This includes accurately preparing and processing histologic specimens for microscopic evaluation and review by the Mohs surgeon. Maintains appropriate quality controls, and ensures the department is operating in accordance with all standards set forth by OSHA, CLIA and other regulatory agencies. Floats between working both Clinical and Pathology. Coordinates and works directly with clinical staff, providers and patients.

Functions
  • Processes, embeds, cuts and stains quality frozen tissue specimens.
  • Performs and documents tests in compliance with quality control procedures and established parameters and standards.
  • Maintains appropriate quality controls, and ensures the department is operating in accordance with all standards set forth by OSHA, CLIA and other regulatory agencies.
  • Maintains laboratory equipment in good working order and troubleshoots equipment problems.
  • Works with the Mohs surgeon to resolve quality control, patient, or procedural problems.
  • Orders supplies related to the defined area.
  • Floats between working both Clinical and Pathology as needed.
  • Interpersonal and communication skills to effectively interact with physician and to function as technical resource to clinical staff.
  • Electronically scribe Mohs documentation into patients’ chart via Mohs Map.
  • Assist with preparing patient for exams and procedures, preparing equipment & instruments by using proper sterilization techniques, and providing education to patients on pre- and post-operative care instructions.
  • Consistently follows policies, procedures, and protocols at Aspire Dermatology.
  • Maintains an extremely high level of confidentiality and follows HIPAA guidelines.
  • Responsible for delivering a high level of customer service in all interactions with patients, providers, employees, vendors, and guests.
  • Assists in meeting and exceeding individual, team and organizational goals.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Maintains yearly competencies.
Basic Qualifications

Experience: One (1) year of experience (within the past five (5) years) as a Mohs Surgery Technician.

Education: Associates degree in histotechnology, medical technology, biological sciences or related field; or, a certificate of successful completion of a NAACLS accredited Histotechnician program is preferred.

Additional Requirements
  • Proficiency in the use of applicable computer software.
  • Must be commutable to all Aspire offices as needed.
  • Influenza vaccination is mandatory.
  • Attention to detail and ability to utilize skills interchangeably to all areas of medical practice.
  • Ability to understand and apply policies, procedures and protocols.
  • Ability to interact with patients, providers, supervisors and peers in a professional manner.
  • Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
  • In order to work effectively with patients, must have effective interpersonal and communication skills and be able to stand, walk, bend, lift at least 50 pounds, hear, speak, and see.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Maintenance of ASCP Histotechnician (HT) certification preferred.
