Job DescriptionThe Sargent Center is currently seeking an OT or COTA for immediate hire. The exact job description will vary depending on qualifications.
Job ObjectivesThe OT or COTA provides coordinated, comprehensive occupational therapy services for students with disabilities. The COTA will provide services necessary to fulfill the student’s individual goals and objectives under the supervision of a registered Occupational Therapist.
Responsibilities- Program
- Implement goal‑oriented treatment programs and design treatment activities when indicated for individuals and/or groups.
- Document student progress throughout treatment and include findings in progress reports.
- Provide behavioral management intervention according to agency policy.
- Provide consultation services to other professionals, families, and agencies as needed.
- Participate in in‑service training and disseminate information in occupational therapy to school staff, families, and LEAs.
- Participate in transition planning for students.
- OTRs will complete comprehensive evaluations and re‑evaluations to determine strengths and areas of need.
- Develop individualized treatment plans for students in collaboration with a multidisciplinary team.
- OTRs will provide supervision to COTAs and collaborate to develop appropriate treatment plans.
- Administration
- Maintain work and treatment schedule.
- Assume responsibility for accurate and timely progress monitoring.
- Submit documentation promptly.
- Accurately maintain student records.
- Actively participate in scheduled staff meetings including full staff, professional development, and supervision.
- Accountability - Report to the Occupational Therapy Coordinator and the Director of Special Education. A COTA is supervised directly by an OTR.
- Hold a valid OT license in Rhode Island and be certified by NBCOT.
- Completed required educational and professional training; prior experience in pediatric settings preferred.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills to interact with students, families, and professional teams.
- Physical stamina, strength, and coordination for a physically challenging job.
- Ability to transfer students or instruct and supervise transfers with available aides.
