- Maintain and evolve the company’s payroll system — GL mapping, new business unit setup, compliance updates, and infrastructure improvements
- Partner with the payroll administrator to keep federal and state requirements buttoned up
- Prepare all payroll-related journal entries: weekly payroll, reclass entries, cash adjustments, PTO accruals, and more
- Own payroll balance sheet reconciliations — Accrued Payroll, FSA, 401K, Accrued Time Off, payroll bank account — and resolve variances promptly
- Lead weekly payroll process reviews to keep everything accurate and compliant
- Step in as backup Payroll Specialist/ HRIS Administrator when needed
- Communicate clearly and promptly with all stakeholders
- Manage annual administration of the ESOP and 401k retirement plans
- Collaborate with TPAs, auditors, attorneys, and HR on testing, corrections, and compliance
- Ensure all ERISA and Plan Document communications go out on time and on point (SPDs, SARs, SBCs, and more)
- Generate and proof required compliance reporting: EEO-1, Non-Discrimination testing, and beyond
On paper, you bring:
- Background in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field
- 5–7 years of relevant payroll and/or retirement plan experience
- 2–3 years of direct supervisory experience
- Experience in payroll operations for a larger-sized organization of 800-2,000+ employees
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and beyond)
- Experience with payroll systems, ERISA compliance, and retirement plan administration
