Psychiatric Nurse Practitioners (NPs) at Braver deliver mental health services in a unique multidisciplinary outpatient program for children, adolescents, young adults, and their parents affected by anxiety, obsessive-compulsive, and related disorders. NPs collaborate with psychologists and their bachelors level exposure coaches to tailor medication selection and optimization in the services of successful conduct of the core evidence based treatment for anxiety, cognitive-behavioral therapy with exposure.
NPs are also supervised by Dr. Case and meet together weekly and additionally as needed. Like all Braver staff, NPs participate in Braver’s startup culture of curiosity, mutual reliance and respect, and continuous change in the service of improving the effectiveness and accessibility of care.
NP responsibilities include:
- diagnostic evaluations of children, adolescents, and adults, typically with a focus on whether and which pharmacological interventions may be useful to improve multimodal treatment of anxiety and related disorders
- collaboration with Braver psychologists and coaches, as well as with primary care providers and school personnel to improve continuity of care and support treatment across the varied environments where patients need to function
- ongoing treatment of Braver patients in accordance with evidence based guidelines and, when such treatments fail, with rational selection of other treatments that require close monitoring for efficacy and adverse effects
- education of patients and families about psychiatric disorders and treatments, including pharmacological, other somatic, and psychosocial interventions
- monitor patient progress over time and participate in ongoing critical reevaluation of team conceptualization of patient problems and treatments in interdisciplinary team meetings and case conferences
- maintain accurate and up-to-date records, including documentation of services provided and communication with other healthcare providers.
- meet legal and ethical standards regarding patient confidentiality and privacy.
This is a hybrid role. Delivery of virtual treatment and other team collaboration can be conducted remotely from the practitioner’s home. Some work may be required to be conducted onsite in one of our office locations. Given the outpatient nature of this work, and the fact that children and adolescents will be in school during the day, it is necessary to periodically schedule appointments that take place in the early morning before school or early evening after parents’ work.
