Supports To Empower People (STEP) is hiring a Director of Nursing to oversee the medical care and treatment implementation for adult men with intellectual and developmental, as well as behavioral and mental health issues in Rhode Island.
Schedule: 32 hours per week
Compensation: The pay range for this position is $72,000 to $90,000 per year. The actual compensation offered may vary based on experience, education, licensure, certifications and qualifications.
In this role, you will:- Provide administrative leadership and supervision to staff, ensuring effective delivery of services and promotion of community‑based programs for individuals with developmental disabilities.
- Provide oversight and training for staff regarding all medical functions, including medication administration, universal precautions, food safety, medical policies and procedures, documentation, nursing care plans, and all other medical tasks performed for participants.
- Oversee, review, and implement all medical policies and procedures as well as regulations pertaining to healthcare issues.
- Adhere to all regulatory, licensing, and program standards regarding medication administration, documentation, education, responses to medical and psychiatric emergencies, waived testing, and prescribing medication responsibilities.
- Assess and monitor physical and mental health conditions, including chronic illnesses.
- Conduct nursing assessments and develop subsequent nursing care plans for the individuals we support.
- Oversee all medical care provided to participants.
- Document services by composing medical reports, care plans, medical reviews, and nurses’ notes for each participant.
- Supervise the maintenance of all medical records, including nursing notes, medication administration records, annual plans, medication renewals, physician orders, consultation reports, laboratory and X‑ray results, etc.
- Consult with physicians to enhance the health and wellness of clients, attending appointments as necessary.
- Coordinate services among healthcare providers, therapists, and caregivers to ensure continuity of care.
- Provide health education and personal hygiene instruction to individuals as needed.
- Offer counseling to participants regarding medical concerns when appropriate.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.

- Must be 21 years or older.
- Graduate of an accredited graduate nursing program.
- Active Rhode Island RN license.
- Nursing management experience preferred.
- This position requires participation in an on‑call rotation.
- Available to work evenings, holidays, weekend shifts as necessary.
- Maintains a valid driver’s license.
- Background and driving record checks will be performed.
