The Job

As an Emergency Veterinarian, you are passionate about helping people and their pets, especially when they need you most. VEG supports you to be the best ER professional possible and to grow your career in unexpected directions. The role emphasizes mentorship and continuous learning—from on-the-floor guidance to VEG Education programs and unlimited ER-focused CE—so you’ll never stop learning. You’ll handle a wide range of emergencies, including routine cases and complex surgeries, and treat every kind of pet, including exotics.

What You’ll Do
  • Answer medical questions over the phone
  • See patients immediately as part of the VEG Triage and VEG Spikes, our client-centered approach to care
  • Gather signalment, presenting complaint, vitals, and physical exam findings
  • Conduct physical examinations and other diagnostic measures such as ultrasounds, X-rays, bloodwork, and biopsies
  • Provide a diagnosis and create a diagnostic and therapeutic plan
  • Communicate diagnosis and treatment options to customers
  • Prepare estimates and present them to customers
  • Create and review medical records for accuracy
  • Explain the value of tests and treatments to customers and address concerns
  • Perform minor and major emergency surgeries
  • Perform endoscopic procedures
  • Educate customers on aftercare and preventive measures where appropriate
What You Need
  • A DVM or equivalent degree
  • Live and breathe emergency medicine, including emergency surgery and endoscopy
  • Thrives in team-oriented environments
  • Ability to stand for prolonged periods, kneel and work on the floor; lift up to 25 kg, with assistance for up to 40 kg
  • Willingness to work in a noisy environment with strong or unpleasant odors
  • Availability to work nights, weekends, and holidays on a rotating or as-needed basis
  • Ability to work well with people from diverse backgrounds in a fast-paced environment
