Clinic Veterinary Technician

The Veterinary Technician for the Spay & Neuter Clinic works closely with other clinic staff to prepare patients, equipment, and the operating room for surgery. Assist veterinarians in the care of animals and equipment before, during, and after surgical procedures. Provide compassionate emotional support to animals and the people who love them.

• Efficiently pre-medicate, induce, and intubate patients as necessary.
• Monitor anesthesia, with a clear idea of abnormal conditions.
• Handle and track controlled substances for large volumes of surgical patients.
• Administer vaccinations, tests, medications and treatments at the direction of veterinarians.
• Navigate varying practice management databases to input patient data, drug dosages, and care notes to ensure patient and client records are maintained promptly and accurately.
• Knowledge and ability to intake and release patients, including delivering post-operative instructions in a competent and friendly manner.
• Able to respond appropriately during an emergency, follow veterinarian instructions and maintain competency of CPR procedures.
• Maintain appropriate level of inventory of medical/surgical supplies.
• Prepare and clean exam rooms and treatment areas.
• Fill medications for patients.
• Walking/feeding patients as necessary.
• Handle medical phone calls.
• Assist at the reception desk by answering phones, scheduling patient appointments and accepting payments.
• Assists in maintaining healthy, safe, sanitary, pleasant and clean facilities.
