We are seeking a compassionate, organized, and licensed long-term substitute School Nurse to provide health services and support for students and staff in an elementary school setting. This role will cover direct care, health education, and coordination of health plans for students on a part-time basis (2–5 days/week).
Key Responsibilities- Provide first aid, triage, and basic nursing care for students and staff during school hours.
- Assess and manage acute illnesses and injuries; determine when further medical attention is needed.
- Administer prescribed medications and treatments according to physician orders and district policies.
- Maintain accurate health records, documenting visits, immunizations, medication logs, and referrals.
- Communicate effectively with parents/guardians, teachers, and school administrators regarding student health concerns and follow-up needs.
- Maintain inventory and ordering of medical supplies and secure storage of medications.
- Refer students and families to community health resources and support services when appropriate.
- Conduct health screenings (vision, hearing, etc.) per district need.
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license in Minnesota.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) certification.
- Experience working with children in school, clinic, or pediatric settings preferred.
- Strong communication, organization, and documentation skills.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and follow FERPA/HIPAA guidelines as applicable.
- Previous experience as a school nurse in an elementary setting.
- Training in pediatric emergency care, diabetes management, or asthma/allergy care.
- Familiarity with Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and 504 plans as they relate to health accommodations.
