Maintenance Technician / Mechanic
Purpose of the Position
As a valued member of the Work Equipment team, you will play a critical role in ensuring the reliability and efficiency of CPKC’s equipment systems by performing preventive maintenance, diagnosing and correcting issues, and conducting repairs on mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic machinery. The opportunity may be headquartered in Waseca, MN or Marquette, IA.
Position Accountability- Conduct safe and efficient mechanical repair and maintenance of roadway equipment
- Inspect, repair, and test a wide range of machinery involved in tie and rail operations, including ballast regulators, loaders, skid steers, backhoes, tie cranes, and tie inserters
- Utilize manual, electric, and hydraulic tools, welders, and cutting torches to perform and verify maintenance tasks and repairs
- Investigate and diagnose equipment issues, taking swift corrective action to minimize downtime and production disruptions
- Plan, organize, and coordinate work within a collaborative team setting
- Maintain and submit accurate equipment maintenance records, timesheets, and documentation
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- Valid driver’s license
- High school diploma or general equivalency
- Formal technical education in heavy equipment or commercial transport, and/or at least 3 years’ experience in heavy‑duty equipment repairs
- Registered apprentices in the Heavy Equipment Technician program may also apply
- Experience with reading schematics, troubleshooting, and repair of hydraulic, electrical, and pneumatic systems
- Proficiency in the use of computers and data upkeep regarding repair work orders and other computer applications

Medical and Drug Testing This safety‑sensitive position requires a pre‑employment medical assessment, including physical, vision, hearing, and a negative company or regulated drug test. Post‑hire qualification drug testing may also be required.
