Job Description

A part‑time Special Education Para educator position in the Life Skills classroom, 4.00 hours per day, 180 days per year, compensated per Lane 4(B) of the Paraprofessionals Salary Schedule. The position is funded through grant allocations or enrollment‑based funding. Employment is guaranteed through the current school year, but continuation beyond this period is contingent on future funding.

Purpose Statement
  • Assist assigned teaching personnel in supervising and instructing special education students, performing classroom clerical tasks, and meeting special health care needs while developing students' daily living and behavioral skills.
Essential Functions
  • Adapt classroom work under teacher direction to support lesson plans.
  • Assist in job coaching activities (e.g., work skills, applying for jobs, preparing for interviews) to support teachers and promote student success.
  • Assist other personnel as required to support completion of their work activities.
  • Confere with parents to evaluate student progress or implement objectives.
  • Drive students to interviews, job sites, and other required locations.
  • Implement instructional behavioral programs under teacher supervision to improve academic success.
  • Maintain student files and records for documentation and reliable information.
  • Monitor students and classroom activities to provide a safe and positive learning environment.
  • Perform record‑keeping and clerical functions (e.g., scheduling, copying) to support teachers and administrators.
  • Provide consistent, reliable attendance as an essential function.
  • Assist with daily living skills (toileting, diaper changing, feeding, personal hygiene) to demonstrate skills and provide needed care.
  • Attendance is an Essential Function of this Position
    —physical presence required, in‑person collaboration, direct interaction with team members, students, and guardians, and access to on‑site equipment.
Other Functions
  • Assist other personnel as required to support completion of their work activities.
Job Requirements /

Minimum Qualifications (Skills, Knowledge, & Abilities)
  • Technical skills to perform single tasks with potential up‑skilling. Must adhere to safety practices.
  • Basic math skills (fractions, percents, ratios); understand written procedures; write routine documents; speak clearly; interpret multi‑step instructions.
  • Ability to adapt to changing work priorities, display tact and courtesy, meet deadlines, set priorities, and maintain attention to detail.
Basic

Physical Requirements
  • Assume and maintain various postures (kneeling, squatting, bending, standing, sitting) for extended periods.
  • Manage physically or verbally aggressive students safely.
  • Participate in physical fitness activities with students (walking, stretching, aerobic exercise).
  • Lift occasionally up to 60 lbs. at a height of 36 in.; frequently up to 25 lbs. at a height of 36 in.
  • Sanitize and clean equipment (work boxes, exercise equipment, walkers, wheelchairs).
  • Remain calm and follow safety procedures in emergencies.
  • Walk students to bus stops in inclement weather.
  • Willing to participate in and utilize MANDT training.
  • May work with bio‑hazards (blood‑borne pathogens, cleaning/disinfecting materials).
