Cost Accountant Job Summary The Cost Accountant is responsible for analyzing, monitoring, and reporting manufacturing costs to support operational and financial decision-making. This role maintains accurate product costing, inventory valuation, and cost accounting processes while partnering with operations to identify opportunities for cost savings and process improvements. The Cost Accountant ensures accurate financial reporting and supports budgeting, forecasting, and month-end close activities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop, maintain, and analyze standard costs for raw materials, labor, and manufacturing overhead.
  • Prepare and analyze inventory, production, and cost variance reports.
  • Monitor inventory transactions and ensure accurate inventory valuation.
  • Perform month-end close activities, including journal entries, reconciliations, and inventory adjustments.
  • Analyze manufacturing costs and identify trends, risks, and cost-saving opportunities.
  • Assist with annual budgeting and periodic forecasting related to manufacturing operations.
  • Reconcile inventory and cost accounts to the general ledger.
  • Participate in physical inventory counts and cycle count programs, investigating and resolving discrepancies.
  • Support product costing for new products, engineering changes, and pricing decisions.
  • Prepare financial analyses related to manufacturing efficiency, labor utilization, scrap, and production yields.
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP, company policies, and internal control procedures.
  • Assist with internal and external audits by providing supporting documentation and analysis.
  • Collaborate with Operations, Purchasing, Production, Engineering, and Finance to improve cost performance and operational efficiency.
  • Maintain accurate Bills of Material (BOMs), routing structures, and costing data within the ERP system.
