DSHS FTAA Fiscal Specialist 1

Join DSHS's Finance, Technology, and Analytics Administration (FTAA) as a Fiscal Specialist 1 within the Consolidated Business Services (CBS2) team located at Rainer School in Buckley, WA. You'll be part of the work that keeps both payroll and financial operations running smoothly. In this role, you’ll support time and attendance processing as well as local funds and accounts payable activities, helping ensure accuracy, compliance, and timely financial operations across the facility.

DSHS FTAA Fiscal Specialist 1 Join DSHS's Finance, Technology, and Analytics Administration (FTAA) as a Fiscal Specialist 1 within the Consolidated Business Services (CBS2) team located at Rainer School in Buckley, WA. You'll be part of the work that keeps both payroll and financial operations running smoothly. In this role, you’ll support time and attendance processing as well as local funds and accounts payable activities, helping ensure accuracy, compliance, and timely financial operations across the facility.

You’ll work closely with managers and staff to review transactions, resolve issues, and apply policies and procedures. From payroll and leave tracking to local fund processing and reconciliation, your work helps ensure everything adds up and holds up to audit.

Opportunities performed on-site at this work location at least three days a week may be eligible for an additional 5% premium pay in addition to the advertised salary. Pierce County employees are eligible to receive an Orca Card for transportation needs.

Some Of What You'll Do
  • Process payroll time and attendance transactions using HRMS and Leave Tracker, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
  • Review, audit, and reconcile payroll, leave, and local fund records; identify and correct discrepancies.
  • Process local fund transactions, including deposits, disbursements, and resident account activity.
  • Apply policies, rules, and procedures to ensure compliance with payroll, leave, and local fund requirements.
  • Support accounts payable functions and ensure proper handling of financial transactions.
  • Provide guidance and technical assistance to managers and staff on time reporting, leave, and local fund processes.
  • Investigate issues, respond to inquiries, and resolve discrepancies related to payroll, attendance, or financial records.
  • Monitor leave balances and eligibility for various leave programs.
  • Serve as a point of contact for payroll and financial questions, coordinating with internal teams as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Who should apply? We Are Seeking Professionals Who Have
  • Three years of fiscal record-keeping experience. OR
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience totaling three or more years.

  • Accounting knowledge:
    Apply basic accounting practices to accurately process and review payroll and fiscal data.
  • Analytical thinking:
    Identify discrepancies, assess information, and make sound decisions to resolve issues.

    Manage large volumes of payroll and fiscal data with consistency and precision.
  • Time management:
    Prioritize competing tasks and meet strict payroll and reporting deadlines.
  • Communication:
    Clearly explain processes and provide guidance to staff and managers at all levels.
  • Technical aptitude:
    Use systems such as HRMS, Leave Tracker, and Microsoft Office tools to complete work.
  • Confidentiality and professionalism:
    Handle sensitive information appropriately while maintaining reliability and strong attendance.
