The Granite Falls Library serves its fast-growing community and its surrounding area. Nestled in the shadows of the beautiful Cascade Mountains, Granite Falls abounds with scenic vistas and outdoor recreational activities. The library provides the public with a wide selection of material to browse and check out, computer, internet, and Wi‑Fi access. The Granite Falls Library also presents children story times and various programs for all ages.
This part‑time position will serve the community by assisting customers at the library circulation desk and providing basic circulation services such as check‑in and check‑out, answering phones, and shelving. The successful candidate should have a demonstrated ability to work as part of a team and experience providing excellent customer service. Work schedules include morning, afternoon, evening, and weekend hours, with the initial schedule consisting of Saturday, Sunday, and Monday shifts.
The successful candidate may be required to adapt to future programming, schedule, and location changes depending on library needs.
This position is part of a bargaining unit represented by AFSCME Council 2.
Job SummaryThe Public Services Assistant I performs basic public service and library support tasks at one or more community libraries or Library on Wheels to contribute to their effective operation, providing library services, spaces, and resources that are representative of diverse cultures and perspectives, intentionally inclusive, and accessible to everyone.

- Provide assistance at the library circulation desk, answer phones, check library materials in and out, register customers for library cards, and order various library materials.
- Assist customers with self‑checkout machines and answer questions in the hold areas.
- Return library materials to proper locations and support circulation duties.
- Provide assistance to library customers with basic reference questions.
- Respond to technical services calls and assist with problems with the fax machines, public copiers, pay‑for‑print stations, vending machines, and printers.
- Submit and monitor technical reports for library technology service issues.
- Perform other public service and general clerical support tasks as assigned.
- Prepare correspondences and reports.
- Train new staff as needed.
- Attend meetings, trainings, and workshops as assigned.
- Assist with special projects as required.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
