Building Administrative Assistant – Highland Middle School Job Summary
The job of Administrative Assistant II provides a variety of office support and/or secretarial duties for a specified building or program. This position reports to the Building Principal/Program Administrator/Department Supervisor.
Essential Functions- Perform a wide variety of assignments which are sometimes confidential in nature; operate personal computer to enter data, draft, edit, revise, and print letters, tables, and reports and other materials.
- Provide courteous, efficient, positive, and welcoming atmosphere to students, staff, parents, administration and community including answering phones in a consistently positive and friendly tone, and performing a variety of other office functions.
- Work as a team member, relating positively with students, staff, and the community at large.
- Respond to multiple questions and requests from students, staff and parents in a positive, professional and timely manner.
- Maintain a highly organized and efficient file system.
- Perform a range of staff and/or operational support activities; may serve as a liaison with other departments on basic administrative and/or operational matters.
- Maintain strict level of confidentiality.
- Oversee and facilitate workflow as needed.
- Perform duties and responsibilities as needed in the health room.
- Perform related duties as assigned.
- AA Degree or equivalent education and/or work experience.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively prioritize work in an environment with multiple, simultaneous tasks.
- Considerable knowledge of and ability to use personal computers and related software.
- Ability to maintain accurate records.
- Ability to identify routine problems and propose feasible solutions.
- Ability to multi-task and work independently.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to work well under pressure and to meet deadlines.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work professionally with persons at all levels.
- Excellent writing and verbal skills and the demonstrated ability to develop written reports and action plans.
- Ability to project a positive, concerned image to the public.
Must be physically capable of kneeling, bending, standing and have the ability to lift up to 50 lbs., if necessary.
Terms of Employment and SalarySalary range: $20.98 – $29.79 per year, step 1 on the appropriate scale unless otherwise noted. The school year consists of 180 scheduled days plus 11 holidays and an additional 21 days beyond the student calendar. Employees accrue 12 days of sick leave per year; a maximum of 3 days of annual leave is provided. Employees expected to work more than 630 hours per year are eligible for benefits through the School Employees Benefits Board (SEBB) including Medical, Dental, Vision, Life Insurance, and Long‑Term Disability.
Positions anticipated to work 70 hours or more per month for at least 5 months over a 12‑month period are eligible for retirement through the State Department of Retirement Services.
