Join Carey Group and help deliver a major infrastructure project in one of the most unique and challenging environments.

At Carey Group, we’re proud to deliver complex mining and infrastructure projects safely, sustainably, and with excellence. As a 100% Indigenous-owned business, our people are at the heart of everything we do, and we’re committed to creating opportunities where individuals and communities can thrive.

We’re looking for an experienced Project Planner to join our project delivery team. This is a fantastic opportunity for a planning professional who enjoys solving complex challenges, influencing project outcomes, and working collaboratively across multidisciplinary teams.

About the Role

Reporting to the Project Manager, you will be responsible for developing, maintaining, and optimising project schedules that support successful project delivery. You’ll play a critical role in ensuring works are delivered safely, efficiently, and in accordance with contractual, commercial, and statutory requirements.

Working closely with project teams, engineers, subcontractors, and stakeholders, you’ll provide accurate planning, reporting, and schedule analysis while identifying risks and implementing practical recovery strategies.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop, manage and maintain detailed MS Project schedules across design, procurement, fabrication, Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT), logistics and construction activities.
  • Apply first-principles planning to develop realistic project programmes that consider remote logistics, resource availability, quality requirements and statutory obligations.
  • Establish, monitor and report against key project milestones, ensuring contractual commitments and procurement lead times are effectively managed.
  • Prepare and maintain Basis of Schedule (BoS) documentation, including planning assumptions, sequencing methodologies, critical path analysis, resource planning and construction strategies.
  • Coordinate planning activities across multiple disciplines including civil, mechanical, electrical, piping and process engineering.
  • Facilitate planning and interface meetings with subcontractors, consultants and project stakeholders to ensure schedule alignment and proactive issue resolution.
  • Monitor project progress, identify schedule variances, analyse trends and provide detailed reporting to project leadership.
  • Conduct forensic schedule analysis to understand project impacts, identify root causes of delays and develop effective recovery programmes.
  • Maintain project risk registers, identifying scheduling, commercial and delivery risks while recommending mitigation strategies.
  • Mentor and support project personnel in planning methodologies and effective use of Microsoft Project.
About You

You are an experienced Project Planner with a strong understanding of project controls, scheduling principles and construction methodologies. You enjoy working in complex project environments and are confident communicating with stakeholders at all levels.

You will also bring
  • Demonstrated experience as a Project Planner within mining, construction, infrastructure or industrial projects.
  • Advanced Microsoft Project (MS Project) scheduling skills.
  • Strong understanding of critical path methodology (CPM), schedule logic and resource planning.
  • Experience managing procurement programmes and long‑lead equipment schedules.
  • Proven ability to undertake schedule risk analysis and forensic planning.
  • Excellent analytical, problem‑solving and communication skills.
  • Experience coordinating multidisciplinary project teams.
  • Ability to interpret contracts and understand commercial project drivers.
  • High attention to detail with excellent organisational and reporting skills.
Why Join Carey?

At Carey, we believe our people are our greatest asset. We offer the opportunity to work on exciting projects alongside experienced professionals in a supportive and collaborative environment.
