Surveyor Assistant
The Surveyor Rodman assists the Chief surveyor and Instrument person surveying and measuring of points, elevations, lines, areas, and contours for construction. Help set up equipment and mark survey points on the ground, sometimes using stakes, hammers, and other hand tools. Maintains tools, and equipment to keep them clean and in good working order.
Typical duties include:

- Carry and position survey rods, stakes, and other equipment to assist with measurements.
- Place markers, stakes, or flags to identify boundaries, elevations, or construction layouts.
- Help the survey crew by clearing brushes or debris to create clear lines of sight.
- Assist in the setup and operation of survey equipment, such as total stations and GPS units.
- Record measurements and observations as directed by the Party Chief or Instrument Person.
- Maintain and organize tools and equipment to ensure they are in good working conditions.
- Follow safety protocols to promote a safe working environment for the team
Skills, knowledge, qualifications, and experience required include:
- Must have experience working in maintenance/turnaround/new construction and knowledge of basic hand tools.
- A general knowledge of basic hand tools.
- Experience working on Surveying crews preferred.
- Must be able to pass the Craft Helper proficiency testing at or above 70%.
- Must be able to complete the Matrix Service Safety training and Client / Site specific training.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain an active status appropriate drug testing program. Must be able to pass background check
Physical requirements include:
- Employee will be standing, walking, bending, squatting and lifting.
- Must be able to hear, speak, understand and communicate effectively.
- May be required to lift, carry and move up to 50lbs.
- May be required to work at heights, climb ladders and stairways and work off platforms while utilizing proper fall protection and safety protocols
- Must be capable of working outside in the elements including but not limited to the heat, cold, rain, snow and wind.
- Must be able to work for long period of times up to 12 hours a day.
- Will be required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) including but not limited to hard hat, safety glasses/goggles, ear plugs/muffs, masks/respirators, safety vests, gloves and steel-toe boots.
Hiring range: $27.00 per hour
