Dentist – Coyote Ridge Corrections Center

The Department of Corrections is seeking a highly motivated and qualified individual for the role of Dentist for the Coyote Ridge Corrections Center (CRCC), located outside the Tri‑Cities in Connell WA.
Responsibilities:- Provides medically necessary dental care to patients and supplies clinical supervision to dental assistants and dental hygienists consistent with RCW, WAC, Department policy, and the WA State DOC Health Plan.
- Reviews the patient’s medical condition and consults with other providers.
- Makes oral examinations of patients to determine oral health; records number of teeth, their condition, position, and relationship to each other; notes type, size, and location of fillings; checks condition of gums; evaluates bone support for teeth.
- Diagnoses dental conditions and plans for their treatment. Prescribes medication for treatment of dental diseases; renders periodontal treatments; administers local anesthetic; takes digital dental radiographs.
- Administers routine dental care and urgent dental problems involving pain, trauma, and/or infection. Performs oral surgery including surgical extractions, endodontics, periodontics, restorative, and operative dentistry within facility limits.
- Determines extent of patient’s cooperation and amount of dental service that can be provided in accordance with the Offender Health Plan.
- Extracts teeth, removes cavities, prepares teeth for fillings, and inserts filling material such as amalgam and resin.
- Coordinates care with contract dentists and denturists.
- Refers patients for specialist care as needed.
- Prepares reports concerning dental work and dental health of patients.
- Accurately maintains patient and administrative records.
- Actively participates in the Dental Care Review Committee (CRC).
- Delegates clinical duties to dental assistants and dental hygienists in accordance with WA State laws (WAC & RCW).
Participates in Department training, continuing education, and coordinated quality improvement processes including:
- Participates in regular drills; subject to emergency assignments for security or disaster response.
- Actively participates in CQIP at the facility level to monitor quality indicators for improving patient care and clinic operations.
- Attends in‑service education programs, mandatory training, and employee meetings.
Other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:- A valid, unencumbered Washington State license to practice dentistry.
- Unrestricted DEA registration to prescribe controlled substances.
Qualifications:
- Two years clinical experience in the practice of dentistry.
- Experience and/or education in working with medical/dental documents, maintaining or processing health/dental records, and using medical/dental terminology.
- Knowledge of scheduling routine or special dental procedures and patient visits.
- Proficiency in computer applications and related technologies.
- Up to 25 paid vacation days per year.
