Staff Accountant – Washington, DC
Beacon Hill Financial has partnered with a client in Washington, DC in their search for a Staff Accountant to join their accounting team. This fully onsite role supports day-to-day accounting operations and plays a key part in ensuring accurate financial reporting, compliance, and timely transaction processing. The Staff Accountant reports to the Controller and provides support across Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, and General Ledger functions.
Responsibilities- Process day-to-day accounting transactions including invoices, cash receipts, credit cards, collections, and expense reimbursements.
- Ensure all disbursements (checks and wires) follow established approval and review guidelines.
- Manage the Accounts Payable inbox and related systems to ensure timely resolution of requests and inquiries.
- Process and approve invoices and expense reports in Concur.
- Process international wires, student award payments, and expense reimbursements.
- Create payment batches in the banking application.
- Communicate with internal departments and external vendors to resolve invoice and payment discrepancies.
- Prepare and maintain monthly general ledger reconciliations.
- Prepare and process journal entries and maintain detailed tracking schedules.
- Assist with monthly, quarterly, and year‑end close activities.
- Support audit preparation and provide documentation as needed.
- Maintain vendor files and journal entry documentation.
- Assist with administrative and ad hoc accounting duties, as assigned.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required.
- 2-3 years of related accounting experience with exposure to G/L, A/P, and/or A/R.
- Experience working in a high-volume transactional environment.
- Strong understanding of general ledger accounting and accounting principles.
- Experience with accounting systems; MIP experience is a plus.
- Experience with workflow applications such as Concur preferred.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (including formulas and pivot tables) and Microsoft Office.
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational and communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Experience with not-for-profit accounting preferred.
