Kforce has a client in Washington, DC that is seeking a Payroll Tax Specialist.
Responsibilities- Review and analyze historical payroll tax data, filings, remittance records, and related payroll documentation
- Investigate payroll tax withholding, reporting, and remittance discrepancies across multiple states and jurisdictions
- Research federal, state, and local payroll tax requirements and determine appropriate corrective actions
- Communicate directly with state and local tax agencies to resolve payroll tax notices, returned payments, account issues, registration matters, and filing questions
- Reconcile payroll tax accounts and maintain organized documentation of findings, agency responses, and resolutions
- Analyze employee payroll records, small transaction details, and payroll system exports to identify root causes of compliance issues
- Support the resolution and proper remittance of outstanding tax obligations
- Recommend practical improvements to payroll tax processes, setup, documentation, and controls
- To be considered for this position, candidates must have experience in a similar role, or they must possess significant knowledge, experience, and abilities to successfully perform the responsibilities listed
- Relevant education and/or training will be considered a plus
- Experience researching tax notices and agency correspondence
- Payroll tax with holdings
- State and local tax requirements
- Federal payroll taxes
- Payroll tax remittance processes
- Research historical payroll records
- Analyze multiple small transactions and employee records
- Trace issues across different tax jurisdictions
- Work through large volumes of historical data
- Comfortable interacting directly with state agencies
- Patient and persistent in resolving issues requiring calls, follow-up, and research
- Pivot tables
- Lookups
- Data organization and analysis
- Ability to work with historical payroll exports and data files
The pay range is the lowest to highest compensation we reasonably in good faith believe we would pay at posting for this role. We may ultimately pay more or less than this range. Employee pay is based on factors like relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, seniority, location, performance, union contract and business needs. This range may be modified in the future.
We offer comprehensive benefits including medical/dental/vision insurance, HSA, FSA, 401(k), and life, disability & ADD insurance to eligible employees. Salaried personnel receive paid time off. Hourly employees are not eligible for paid time off unless required by law. Hourly employees on a Service Contract Act project are eligible for paid sick leave.
