Senior Accountant (Contract) — Non-Profit Sector
We're partnering with a confidential, mission-driven non-profit to bring on an experienced Senior Accountant for a contract engagement supporting a busy accounting team through a period of growth, transition, and audit preparation. If you know your way around restricted funds, grant compliance, and a tight month-end close, keep reading.
What you'll be doing:- Manage the full month-end and year-end close process, ensuring timely and accurate financial reporting.
- Prepare and post complex journal entries, accruals, prepaid expenses, and account reconciliations.
- Maintain the general ledger and ensure compliance with GAAP and nonprofit accounting standards.
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and supporting schedules.
- Oversee accounts payable and accounts receivable activities, ensuring accuracy and timely processing.
- Monitor grant expenditures, reconcile restricted funding, and ensure compliance with grant agreements and donor restrictions.
- Assist with grant reporting, indirect cost allocations, and budget‑to‑actual analysis.
- Reconcile bank accounts, investment accounts, and balance sheet accounts.
- Support annual audits by preparing schedules and responding to auditor requests.
- Partner with program managers and leadership to provide financial insights and support budgeting efforts.
- Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes and strengthen internal controls.
- 5+ years of accounting experience, preferably within the nonprofit sector.
- Strong knowledge of general ledger accounting, month‑end close, and financial statement preparation.
- Experience with grant accounting and fund accounting is highly preferred.
- Hands‑on experience with Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, account reconciliations, and journal entries.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA is a plus.
- Experience with nonprofit ERP/accounting systems (such as Sage Intacct, Blackbaud Financial Edge, MIP Fund Accounting, or similar) is highly desirable.
- Strong Excel skills and the ability to analyze financial data.
