Responsibilities

Kforce has a client in Washington, DC that is seeking a Grants and International Accounting Contractor.

Position Summary:

Our client, a large mission-driven organization with domestic and international operations, is seeking an experienced Accounting Manager-level consultant to support its Grants and Operations Accounting team. This individual will partner closely with accounting, finance, and operational stakeholders to ensure accurate financial reporting, accounting compliance, and support for complex grant-funded activities. This role combines hands-on accounting responsibilities with review, analysis, and business partnership functions.

The ideal candidate will be equally comfortable preparing and reviewing accounting work, supporting month-end close processes, and providing guidance to both finance and non-finance stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and review account reconciliations for complex balance sheet and income statement accounts
  • Prepare, review, and analyze journal entries and supporting documentation
  • Support month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes
  • Provide accounting guidance and support to operational and program teams
  • Review financial activity across multiple entities, departments, and funding sources
  • Analyze accounting transactions to ensure compliance with applicable accounting policies and grant requirements
  • Assist with grant-related accounting activities, including revenue recognition and expense allocations
  • Partner with internal stakeholders to address accounting questions and improve financial processes
  • Support financial reporting, account analysis, and audit preparation activities
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements, automation, and increased efficiencies
  • Participate in special projects and system-related initiatives as needed
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field
  • 5+ years of progressive accounting experience
  • Experience performing both hands‑on accounting work and review-level responsibilities
  • Strong understanding of debits, credits, reconciliations, and financial reporting
  • Experience reviewing and preparing journal entries
  • Experience supporting month‑end close processes
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including working with large datasets
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to explain accounting concepts to non-finance stakeholders
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast‑paced environment
Preferred Qualifications
  • Nonprofit accounting experience
  • Grant‑funded organization experience
  • Public accounting background
  • Multi‑entity or global accounting experience
  • Experience supporting complex funding arrangements
  • Experience with major ERP systems such as Workday, Oracle, SAP, Dynamics, Net Suite, or similar platforms
  • Experience working with indirect cost allocations and grant reporting
  • Experience supporting distributed teams across multiple locations

The pay range is the lowest to highest compensation we reasonably in good faith believe we would pay at posting for this role. We may ultimately pay more or less than this range. Employee pay is based on factors like relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, seniority, location, performance, union contract and business needs. This range may be modified in the future.

  • Salaried personnel receive paid time off.
  • Hourly employees are not eligible for paid time off unless required by law.
